You say to keep the Revs down but my cars seems to make more noise sat at 1.5k (real deep rumble) then 2k.

Think the comments should really be to modify the revs to ensure the noise is kept to a minimum. It will all depend on the vehicle and exhaust.

I do drive round the local streets very slowly, I also keep the revs down and use the lower gears (less of a deep rumble) I bought the car about 8 months ago and I was the first UK owner, the car was registered and MOT'd when I bought it with this exhaust on and the MOT was done with this exhaust.

If they had knocked on my door and decided to chat like adults to me about it I may have come to some arrangement with them. The thing that really annoyed me was the fact that they stated that they wanted to nip it in the bud one on one but yet wouldn't leave anywhere for me to respond to!!

I can sympothise with them as I am a light sleeper too and I have to put up with Circular Saws, bin men, lawnmowers, rust bucket Micra's with cam belts squeeling that wake me up constantly and that's not even mentioning the little chicken chaser crotch rockets that hooon past my house at top revs making a deafening high pitch squeel!!

I have checked with my insurance and I am fully insured with that exhaust, the last MOT had the exhaust on. The car isn't even de-catted (was contemplating getting this done but may not now) so can't see what their beef is!

I very rarely drive at night and I am not a morning person so it's not like I come in every night at 12 onwards (normally back before 10 when I am driving) or drive round waking everyone up at 7 in the morning!!

The question is that if I had just bought a new ferrari where the engine is as loud as my overall car sounds would they be complaining!!!!

I have spoken to an ex-road plod and he said the worst they can do is get the council out and they will do a test like they do for noisy parties and if I pass that there is nothing they can do!!

As for where to go from here I am not sure, I have checked the legality of it and everything is legit, I am just going to wait for the outcome!!!

But when you're living in a small community it's not about what's right and wrong legally, it's about keeping a good quality of living around your area. Nothing worse than being at odds with the people you have to share a street with.

I can't see what was wrong with the letter either, apparently we have a lot of angry confrontational people on the forum. Going door knocking when you don't know the person could be asking for a verbal slanging match.

You sound sensible, i'd not worry too much. If they do knock calmly explain how you try your best and don't leave the car idling etc.

That's what i have always done! Mine isn't the loudest car in the neighbourhood and I certainly don't drive mad in it around our area (that's like shooting yourself in the foot!!)

I think they are just a couple of old biddies who are complaining about it cause they don't like their cup of warm bovril interupted by a japanese sports car!!

I would understand if I was sitting on my drive reving the engine or some sort of scenario like that!!

bunch of bitter old people!!

As for annoying the neigbourhood, I don't really care! I have sypothy but only where it is due! as I said I drive very conservativley and it's not like I drive through the estate at 90mph!!! if I was speeding then I could understand that!!

The other thing that really annoyed me about the letter was the fact that they just assumed that it wouldn't pass the MOT with an exhaust like that! If they are making comments like that they should actually check the facts first!!

I hope I get a knock on my door!!

apexi do a butterfly vave to put in the exhaust , might be worth a look , just dampen the sound down when around your road

It's a thought but I don't see why I should quieten my exhaust when I am doing nothing wrong! plus I can't afford to spend money on other items for my car as I spent all my money trying to buy it!!

I should get one then send the invoice to the people who wrote the letter!! Oh that's right they couldn't be bothered to leave there name (I am well known to everyone on the neigbourhood as my entire family live in the local area and I have lived there for 24 years now!) My neighbours close to me really like it! they know that I take it easy!!! think it's someone on the next street!! All they needed to do was come talk to me!! hey they may even have got a ride in the 2!!!

Perhaps you could sell your car and buy a toyota prius? #-o

Alternatively you could smash their windows so that they no longer rattle when you drive past.

Go knocking on peoples doors then and ask if they know about the letter. Explain nicely that it's legal and you do your best to keep the noise down, but that's the best you can do.

I don't advocate falling out with neighbours though, nothing worse than not feeling comfortable at home.

Get them to buy you a new exhaust, if they want it changed they can pay for it. ;)

Instead of knocking on peoples door, just drive from house to house, revving the ar$e off your 2, then see who reacts the worst!

Chances are they wrote the letter \:D/

I have just been told that apparently the worst they can do is put a ASBO on the car saying that I can not use it after 11pm or before 7am!! that's sweet cause I am never driving after those hours!!

If I do get one of those I am going outside the dudes house every morning at 7 am and revving the cr*p out of my car!! childish but revenge is sweet!!

i agree with the neighbours if your exhaust is above the legal limit.

my car rumbles the house on idle so imagine it can be a pain. It would p1$$ me off.

the fact is if they had approached me in a suitable mannor this could have been sorted quite easily and we could have come to some arrangement!

I saw the letter as blackmail!! why should I have to pay to change it???????? [-(
