under £500, it should need surgery. never say never though, have a look!

Id expect prices to peak a little being summer! have a good luck at the rust situations on these standard cars, and general maintenance.

Donna

I live in Motherwell not far from you and I have a 1.5 although not on the road yet due to my laziness in getting it sprayed. Most its had to date is a rattle up and down the driveway. Its a lot of work and not for the faint hearted as being up in Scotland you have to go on the twobrutal site for info instead of one of the guys popping round.

Just bought a S/C direct from Japan. Arrived in Newcastle docks last Friday and clears customs tomorrow. Its 59k miles and been a Toyko car all its life. A dark blue T Bar manual. Be up and on the road in a few weeks so you are more than welcome to visit and see both cars plus the other N/a under a tarpaulin waiting for a V6 or V8 if I feel brave enough.

Your gonna struggle to find a decent Mk1 up here as we live in salt most of the year.

Pop into the twobrutal site and PM me if I can be of any help.

Beauty! So what is it a reshelled SC, or an SC'd 4age?

Donna, that is a beautiful car - looks very clean.
Has it had a respray recently or during the conversion? It's not got any of the external decals (stripes etc) - hence my thoughts on this front.
Black Paint on the head in the engine is unusual colour too...
But it does look very very nice.
If it makes you feel any better; had mine just over a month and due to working silly hours I haven't had time to do a proper clean either... :( Got all the stuff, just have to find the time!
What's the mileage on the engine?
Shame it's not a T-Bar, but I guess you can't be too picky when you're already looking for a red SC!

Congrats!

It'll be an SC engine conversion... ie an SC engine complete has been installed.

Car looks good. Now you just need a SC engine lid to complete the conversion(although those are hard to get and pricey)
Looks as if the guy installed an adjustable FPR too.
I def don't like those tail lights, alsmost the same as USDM 85-86 lights.

It had a full bare metal respray a few years ago and new panels etc i have £££ and a pile up to my knee of receipts for bits.

Yip its a N/A with a SC stuck in and i know i need the SC hood but dont fancy paying £250 for one

Any one have any alternatives? do the scoops work for the mark 1? what do others with the conversion use?

Also with regard to the back lights does anyone have a pic to show me the differences? as im new to the MR2's

Thanks for the nice comments guys, looking forward to giving him a good clean over the weekend 8)

You can always do what we do on the Dark Side, not to everyone's taste but does work.

Heres a pic of my 88(with the MKIII wheels) Notice the tail lights are much longer compared to the license plate holder. These bolt on with a couple holes drilled, you also need the lock cylinder as its deeper.

Karmeleon do a replica engine cover but they are £250.00 plus your old one in exchange http://www.karmeleon.co.uk/
I have always wondered about the possability of usigf a MK2 tubby one and grafting the vents in to an NA lid they come up often and sell cheaply on ebay

The OEM ones are fiberglass

Fitting a Tom's style scoop like on my SC wouldn't really help as the NA lid is the limiting factor at the moment - the SC lid only has vents above the intercooler ( the vent on the other side is blank ) and the cooler is sealed to the lid to make sure air is drawn through it by the partial vacuum above the lid when the car is moving. The vents on the NA lid won't allow as much flow through the cooler, and part of the flow is lost through the vents on the other side.

The ideal fix is replacing the intercooler with a chargecooler, and keep the NA lid, but that would cost even more than an SC lid :(

Great looking car! As has been said above, I think a SC engine cover would be a wise investment, air flow through the stock SC isn't optimal at the best of times and the NA lid really wont be doing it any favours.

I reckon you ought to be able to pick up an SC engine lid for far less than £250... really it is by far teh best thing to use. Would expect you can pick one up for a £100 or so. Otherwise all you can do is cut out a hole in your existing engine lid as it will heatsoak to bu88ery otherwise.

The scoops that sit on the engine bay panels are pretty useless tbh, i'd avoid like the plague.
