Still lovin' the MR2!

Post by dawolf »

As I often do on a Sunday I drove back home from my g/f's today along the fast country roads and I have to say after 2 years of ownership I still love the way the MR2 drives and handles the road in the dry, I just never seem to get bored of it. Everything is just as you would want as a driver, perfect steering and seating position, short-shift gears, grippy chassis, mid-engined, rear-wheel drive.
Was really giving it some revs, engine roaring behind me, induction kit growling and the exhaust droning away. Got the backend to step out a fraction on a few corners making the tyres gently squeal then bringing it back in line. Then as I approach the lights a quick firm press on the brakes brings the car to a very abrupt but safe stop.
I know I only have an N/A but it's still a fast car and it's really helped me to learn about the great characteristics of the MR2.

I admit I've only had a limited driving experience of cars in my 7 years of driving but the MR2 is easily the best I've driven simply for the way it feels and the fun factor hence I plan to change to a turbo model very soon once I find the right one, that will be another learning experience I'm sure!

Yeah, had mine for 2 years, 2 weeks and 1 day (but who's counting? )

Still love it despite driving it nearly every day 8) The Mk1 is perfect for UK roads.

Yep, I've had my N/A for 14 months and almost every one of the 30k miles I've done have been pure pleasure. I say almost as in that short time I have been hit twice by other cars, reversed off my drive into the neighbour's motor and skidded off the road in snow and hit a bush. That's more action than my last 3 cars combined!

You can't say driving a '2 is boring!

Btw hit 100k on the clock today and missed noticing it by one mile. I was quite annoyed with myself!

Less of the "only" an n/a. [-X

Most of the hot-hatches and GTis around are n/a's too and, at the end of the day, the MR2 n/a still has a better chassis than most (if not all) of them. At 150-odd BHP it also has at least as much power as well.
The tubby is a genuine giant-killer but the n/a is still more capable than 90% of the boring junk on the roads these days. ;)
