Anyone here go today? Was a fair few mr2s there. My best was a 13.699 at 100.13mph. That good for a rev2?

nah im not like that

but yeah i have, the best way to launch a 2 is NOT to let go of the clutch totally like a lot of people say. Slip clutching is by far the best way to put down the power you hardly slide at all. i was keeping with some 4wd stuff fairly well

Also met Xxxx there. Top bloke, was talking to him and one of his mates. He gave me some great advice on my launches n showed me round his 2 etc. I read a fair bit of xxxx about him on here it seems like one person complaining and the rest just following to be honest, the way forums usually work..

hi nut, i was there too. new PB of 13.266, i'll post timeslip tomorrow if i don't run a better time !

your doing REALLY well for just an mbc, even looked like a std exhaust on your car ? Keep an eye out for Duane at York / Elvington too, red rev1 t-bar ... like you he runs minimal mods but has a killer launch.

He Who Shall Not B e Named will be there again tomorrow, as shall i. that car is gonna do some good times, me thinks. I'll be running without the TOMs scoop tomorrow though, cos i'm still undecided if it is helping or not. Don't know how the other steel mist grey rev 2 (?) did, do you have any idea ?

saw few other 2's that didn't seem to race - there was one "JET ????", a red one and a really fancy painted blue one with what looked like a veilside kit and a tall (taller than shahids) GT type wing.

I'm still trying to get this whole clutch slipping launch thing down, but even not getting it just right, i took 2 tenths off my usual 60ft time.

Did you get to run against the twin-turbo 260z ... i think i love that car !

hi mate. Yeah i noticed your mods in your garage, you should be very low 13s possibly 12's with my launches. we'll swap cars next time if you want  and your right, standard exhaust and even the cat still on. The other silver tubby was standard boost i think i beat it fairly easy top end and won by about a car length.

Fair few mr2s there but was only a few of us running. I dont care if my scoop takes off time it cant be that much to make any noticeable difference plus i bonded it to the car as the bolts didnt fit right (bad copy i guess)

And yeah, the twin turbo 260z WHUPPED!! me big time. It got a 12.7 on my ticket. Ill try explain clutch slipping to you next time i see you there, i'm starting to use my handbrake makes a good difference.

splash your 1/8 time was 84mph where as mine is high 79's MAX. If id have had your massive 3rd gear acceleration i think id have been extremely low 13's maybe just into the 12's. More mods needed i think

Hi all, I went to York 2day (Monday) - saw some real nice mr2`s.

Unfortunately my times were absolute cr*p :(

From my timeslip do u think I`m losing it all on the start or would you say it seems more like an issue with the car`s performance.

Oh yeah, its a fairly std mk2 rev2 turbo - got an induction kit and MBC but set conservatively at the minute, boost gauge says its runing .8 bar at about 4k, though I noticed as I looked down at just under 6k in 3rd that it had dropped to 0.6 by then.

I was expecting around mid 14`s to be fair with high 90`s 1/4m speed.

I know I`m not good at launching yet cos I`m used to yanks with auto gearboxes but I thought it would pick up a bit better higher up....

Nyway my best time:

60 FT 2.290
1/8 ET 9.872
1/8 MPH 74.48
1/4 ET 15.276
1/4 MPH 91.43

I was always told that ur MPH is an idication of power and that even if you screw ur starts up you will still get an MPH not too far off what you would get with a good start.

I was changing up about 6000rpm, cos the power seems to drop right off after then so doesn`t seem any point holding on to the red line.

Well was still worth going to c what some other mr2`s were capable of.

Catch u l8r,

Dom

well as an indication i got a 15.6 in my standard n/a  so yeah you could say your launches are fairly pants :) We're all rubbish at dragging to start with its something youve got to practise, dont worry about it. The best way to launch is to slip clutch, dont let go of your clutch totally as i bet you lost a lot of time spinning off the line instead of massive grip. Also, change at 5500 on a rev2 revving to 6k loses your torque a fair bit as the torque on your turbo tails off huge amounts after 5k.

Set off at 4.5k with your biting point ready and your handbrake up full then let go keeping your feet in the same positions and smoothly plant your foot then quick change into second etc.

Thanks for info m8.

No I didn`t use the handbrake - and as my clutch is like on or off i didn`t really have the biting point b4 the lights changed.

I think my best time was actually when I spun the wheels - even though I know that isn`t the quickest way to start - cos all the other times I just bogged right down at the start and then had to wait for the turbo to spool up again.

- and yeah next time I`ll change up that bit earlier - I knew the turbos were supposed to loose boost high up if they`re set to like 1 bar or something but i thought it should hold just 0.8 all the way to 6k - I didin`t really notice where it started to drop off to 0.6 - it was just as I looked down b4 I changed out of 3rd at 6K that i saw it had already dropped off.

Well it`s all experience and still good fun :) so I`ll try all that stuff next time.

Cheers,

Dom

Xxxx never made it on Monday, but i spoke to him last night, and he's definately going to the next Elvington event.

i never improved on my time from Sunday, but tried the slipping clutch technique, and think i'm starting to get the hang of it, still can't get a decent 60ft though. by next year i'll be able to launch good LOL.

Left when it started raining and they pulled the RWD's off the track. Spoke to some more mr2 people i'd not seen before too. Highlight of Monday, beating an Evo IX, coolest car of the day - White Mk2 Escort running mid - high 12's.

Well went to York again 2day (Sat 5th Aug), with my Rev2 Turbo - and things went better this time.

Since last time I took the cat off and setup my MBC for about 1 bar. Still stock appart from that and air filter/exhuast tho.

My best last time I went was a bit pants - 15.276 @ 91.43 mph.

Heres my best time today:

60 FT 2.104
1/8 ET 9.036
1/8 MPH 80.04
1/4 ET 13.964
1/4 MPH 101.17

Definitely improved, though I was still hoping I could get nearer mid 13`s - and only broke into the 13`s on that go - tho I had a few others more or less dead on 14. Think most of the difference is down to the car - but I think I`m starting to get my launches better - started off at mid 14`s and 2.3 sec 60 foot`s - but the last few runs I think I started to get to know the car a bit more.

Still know I can get a bit better but not sure the car has the power to get mid 13`s looking at the 1/4 MPH? - unless I get a real lucky launch lol!

Just did 8 runs 2day - so I don`t feel so bad about going back 2moz for another try :D

Saw 1 other mr2 there - a Red Rev1 Turbo T-Top with nice wolfrace rims.

red rev 1 may have been duane, i think he said he was going. i'll be there again later in the year, once my engine is run in a bit. from those numbers, i think you'll be able to 13.5 or under with a decent launch. duanes car is pretty similar specced (xcept greddy I/C), and i think he's ran about a 13.5 or 6

Yeah had a look through the 1/4 mile timetable and I c ppl are managing better times than me even with a lower trap speed - so I`ll keep practicing!
