5th gear popping out

a friend of mine has a e reg aw11 and it pops out of fifth gear.
what is needed to sort this out and where can you get it apart from toyota ,after remortgaging house lol.
any help is appreciated

getting the gear off is a bit harder, need a special puller to get it off and there might not be enough room to do that with the box in situ.

shame really as the SC E51 box has three threaded holes for pulling off 5th gear with a normal puller.

Shish, it is harder to get the 5th gear out & it can be done without the need to remove the box from the car, i bought a special puller which cost me a small fortune & have now replaced about 6, 5th gears this way using this puller, but its impossible without the right puller..... ask Mr Woods...... how many have you smashed trying to get them off paul ????? =D> , Jinxy

What's the puller? Might be a useful tool to get and keep for a rainy day. Mines nodding a little, not sure if it's 'normal' nodding or signs of problem.

Nodding= play in the hub.

i'd do it sooner rather than later because it starts to round off the teeth which the hub from teh selector fork engages, so the sooner you do it the longer it will last.

Hi Karl, the puller is a long straight legged one, you cant get a hinged leg puller to work, the one i bought was £197 inc Vat which has now paid for itself, but to be honest unless you plan on doing more than 5 its an awfully expensive tool to have lying around just in case you may need it one day. There are cheaper ones out there, but they are not up to the amount of pressure it has to take on the lugs to draw the gear off, cheers, Jinxy
