Oh yeah and the obvious point about clocking a car is that if you see 2 MR2's that are identical other than mileage you will always take the one with the least mileage. So if you want to sell the car your more likely to do so if you knock the mileage down to around 50k.

Gordy, i'm pretty sure that when the cars reached 40k a lot of them were probably sent over but the point i'm making is that they are still coming over regardless and yet the mileage isn't going up any?

Thing with jap cars is

a) theres so much traffic they hardly get that much driving!!!

b) they can only drive on certain days of the week some kinda congestion beating thing

c) they have much more respect for there own and other peoples property and look after cars better!

let alone the climate means cars are in better nick!!

Yes i completely agree here!

The islands in Japan are all very small, and there is not much to drive around. Congestion is a problem, hence why most people commute using the public rail network.
Driving in Japan is a weekend thing, and people tend to look after their cars better.
Aparently traffic legislation is much stricter in Japan and the penalties for forgery/deception are very high.

Scotster, why would you say that 99.99% of cars from Japan are clocked? What about cars from the UK. Most people throw away/lose old MOT docs and without them if they dont have a full dealer service history then its hard to prove the milage here too.

It happens here all the time too. I personally know 3 cars that are clocked and i have owned one. Wasnt me that done it but it was an evo V imported from japan. It came over with 60k miles on it (4 years old so wonder where they were driving it?) and when i got it it was at 7k in 2005. The guy tried to clock it when he brought it over but there is a thing built into the evo's (won't pretend to know what it is) that meant as soon as he tried to change the mileage it reset to 0.

Why did i say 99.99%? A slight exageration but i would certainly say the majority. If you guys want to be naive and think that that your cars haven't been clocked then thats fine, in fact you may be right, but i seriously doubt it as i would say 1 in 10 probably wasn't. Me personally, i'm happy that i have a japanese car that, chances are, won't really give me much grief as you are spot on. The cars in Japan are much better looked after than over here plus they don't have the salt on the roads etc and they are much stricter with their speed limits etc so they probably won't be thrashed. I don't think its the individual owners that clock them, i think its the company's that sell them (not over here, although i bet some do, but over there to make sure they get better sales). I seriously don't care what the mileage of my car is, i got it for an absolute song considering the breed of this car. It says 100k on the clock but it could be 200 for all i know. All i can say is the engine is as sweet as a nut and the turbo is looking good at the moment.

Look Scotster, it may make you feel better about your own car, saying that 99% have been clocked, but that is utter BS.

Yes they get clocked. But 99%?? How can you even fathom putting a % on it? I mean how many hundreds of cars have you personally seen in japan, and in the UK, to KNOW that they have been clocked? It's utter crap.

but i seriously doubt it as i would say 1 in 10 probably wasn't

I assume from the numbers you're quoting you have some kind of proof yes?

Just because they come from japan, doesn't mean you don't get any history. I've got history from the day my car was born, and mileage is clearly stated all the way through. And it's not the only one! I've seen owner after owner with EXTENSIVE history.

Ok, and how many jap cars have you worked on? So you can look at the engine/transmission/suspension components and know that they have covered more miles than the clocks say?

Picking numbers out the air and going on hearsay is what's making this club full of crap and predictable and WRONG!

Note not ONCE have a said how many cars have been clocked, Because I don't know! But I KNOW from experience you're talking out your ahole.

Think before you open your mouth.

Rant over.

I wouldn’t make a statement like that without hard facts or evidence. Just because your car had it done to it doesn’t mean everyone else’s had!

I have some history with mine that backs up the mileage and sure other have too, many won’t but still doesn’t mean that there cars are clocked!!

It doesn’t pay the japanese to drive much as its already been said, few roads, lost of traffic and heavy emissions fees. Especially the much stricter testing hense them exporting a lot of vehicles at the 3/6 and 9 year mark with increasing emission based taxes and testing fees.

Well said Luke! =D>

Totally agree!

I got history with mine also confirming the milage!

(oh no, i can see a statement coming along saying "the documents must have been altered")

Well said Luke, I agree!

Does my nut in when people claim to 99.9% of jap cars are clocked, FFS how the hell can you put a percentage on that

Stick to fact, not talking bs.

he may well be wrong, but who actually has evidence that 99.99% of cars AREN'T clocked?
even FSH can be forged nowadays, along with countless other methods of car data.
give the guy a break anyway, he was airing his opinions, not proving a hard fact..though we could do that on here?
ive had MANY clocked cars, too many.

Or have i? who can tell?

it's too confusing!!!!
