Nice to see some compassion on here for a fellow MR2 owner in an accident.

We all make mistakes, so I doubt if she'll do the same manouvre again.

Anyone else want to have a twist of the knife?

Hmm maybe you're right. Maybe she calls herself essexgirlracer for some other reason. Maybe she's really quick at eating her dinner?

Like I said, glad no-one was harmed, and no-one likes to see (or hear about) a bent car, especially a '2. But (IMHO) too many 'racers' are getting hold of them and not showing them the respect they deserve. Essexgirlracer, if it was ice, then you have my apologies.

If that was the case.......WTF do you give yourself a moniker like that? :^o

some interestin comments,
end of day none of you were there.
i dont drive like a loony, i got a nice car and i dont do the whole showin off thing it aint me. i wasnt tryin to catch up with other cars cos i was one of the last cars 2 leave and i was goin different was to everyone. i didnt give it welly i was in a straight line only doin 20. the same night an m3 nearly lost it there and so did alot of my other mates. the roads that night were v bad i went harlow saturday saw 6 cars in dictches! on the a 414.
if it was my fault i wud admit it gladly. i had my younger sister in the car so last thing i wud do is put her in any kinda danger.
i no for fact the grease and ice was 2 blame and my poo tyres finished it off. least it happened at low speed and close to home so i no for future reference. i am gonna splash out on some decent tyres.
thank you 2 the sympathetic people. i have been drivin over 2 years and thats my first eva prang

Any of the top brands should be ok. Most seem to go with either bridgstones, goodyear eagles or toyo's.

I'm on toyo proxies T1R's and find them excellent.

FWIW - Here's a small video of my 360º spin as a token reminder that cheap tyres are an absolute no-no!
Fortunately I was on the track and despite my best efforts to countersteer the spin, it broke away so quickly I was simply hanging on!

You had a few issues with that corner on the day if my memory serves me right - oddly I was on ultra cheap nasty Maxxis tyres and didn't spin once, maybe I wasn't trying as hard as you ;)

That vid you took of me on the bottom corner was me trying to drift a bit and show off but it just gripped...

I'm on Eagle F1s in a wider fitment right now and the car is all over the place on the road if I push on, it's just plain slippy out there, it's not the time to move quickly in any direction.

sorry to hear about the bad luck.

had the back end of mine break out the other night as i was tootling slowly round an island. even with eagle f1's which i'd class as the best tyres i've ever owned, the bad weather conditions got the better of them.

normally i'd be all for the back end being out of shape but when your not expecting it it takes a lot to get back.

keep your chin up and wrap with good rubber.

my 2 pence worth would be the eagle f1's but others favour the bridgestones or toyos.

i dont think you can go wrong with either of the above.

You're damn right, the car was all over the place in the morning sessions. Even on the parade lap I nearly span off, that would have been VERY embarrassing!

You were at lot faster than me in the Supra and I wasn't surprised to be completely honest.
Perhaps it was the electronics on the Supra doing all the work to keep you in shape, rather than your professional driving stiles!?
Was that the day that you were going to beat up the big fella’ with the BMW M3?

Bridgestone SO3 all round for me. 255 on the rear and 215 on the front. Sticks like poo to a blanket and not had a scary moment on them yet. On my second set.

I had a set of 'Kumho' tyres on my Tubby when i lost it at Spa a few years ago. They were great in the dry but rubbish in the wet. Would not recommend them.

No electronics on the car, just a modern suspension design ;)

I have traction control but that got switched off as soon as I left the pits, it's plain dangerous on the Supra. It's supposed to be a trick G sensor jobby, in reality it does nothing when you want it to and everything when you don't - Racelogic would be a nice treat but it's one of those mods you generally fit on the car you buy after the big accident.

Funny, that - I bought it for the 300ZX after scaring myself silly in a sideways fashion.. (Never had it fitted on the manual car, though, only the auto)

driving for only 3 years, mr2 owner for a month, crap tyres, icy and greasy roads. Explosive combination!

I span my mk2 turbo after 3 weeks of ownership in the wet on crap tyres, and i'd been driving rear wheel drive cars 7 years at that point. It really does surprise me how some of these youngsters manage to buy and insure a car like a mk3 mr2. It doesn't surprise me that the crashes then happen.

stereo type of younger drivers, insurance is cheap for me, my uni degree helps my knowledge on cars out, end of day i can userally control a car pretty well but it was havin none of it and a round about was approachin pretty quick.
if u mean 2 slide it it easy 2 control but wen ur caught out like thats its hard, espielly wen i was drivin down a straight round, poo happens learnt the hard way part of gainin drivin experience

Sorry to hear about your shunt but hopefully you can learn that new tyres and smoothness on the contols all help!

i have been drivin over 2 years and thats my first eva prang

2 years still makes you a new driver... Remember F1 drivers in their first year of F1 are still known as "Rookies" I think it was more the fact that you said you were at a "cruise" that people probably jumped to the conclusion that you were speeding. The fact that in these cars you don't need to speed to lose it.

It it just experience.. 2 yrs of driving in probably modified hot hatches etc.. or other FF cars. When you drive a MR car you need at least a year to get used to it before you can push it to anywhere near what its capable of.

end of day i can userally control a car pretty well but it was havin none of it and a round about was approachin pretty quick.

No offence but in this case you didn't control the car.. yes it happens quick.. even at slow speeds.

stereo type of younger drivers,

I bought my Mr2 turbo when I was 18.. and have never spun or pranged it (touch wood) I'm now 24 and the car is still going. So just to show that not ALL young drivers are risks!

if u mean 2 slide it it easy 2 control but wen ur caught out like thats its hard

It sounds like you need a track day! If you mean to slide in these cars you can get it wrong too as it will bite you back. Also if you're unaware of what the car is oing at anytime it will bite you too. The trick is not underestimate the car.. if its icy and cold you need to be very very smooth and slow, otherwise as you found out, the back end decides it wants to go ahead on its on!

If man-mountain Mitch thought he was large, he must've been a fair shadow on the horizon! :)
