what a bad end to a wicked cruise last night in chelmsford, was one of the last cars 2 leave the car park, just left and was drivin down the road, went round riund about fine drivin straight doin 20 or 30, hit some ice and grease, my car started snakin across two lanes, did 360 spin, hit central reservation rear end spun round and smart the concrete kerb then stop, was sittin across 2 lanes of traffic, checked my sis was ok jumped out my car started throwin up and couldnt breath, luckly one of my v good mates was few cars behind and he moved my car into a car park, where i left it over night. only a small bang but it really shook my up after inspection i have curbed my front wheels and buckled a rear wheel and mangled tyres, the impact sounded like there was alot more damage will no monday weva there is any axil damage.
was gettin tyre prices told my brand they told m,e they were v cheap budget tyres so not surprised i lost it, think i will get some decent ones, can anyone recommend some? well i need 2 buy a new wheel to my poor lensos :(

Very misleading the tittle to this thread!

I was expecting to find something all together very different to the story that followed :clown:

Bad luck though and I hope all is sorted

Ice/grease unlikely I'm afraid it's probably just down to some crap tyres and a bit too much welly. I'm afraid the MR2 is not too forgiving, if you learn out of this spend good money on good tyres before any other mods!

Glad to hear you are OK, harsh but think of it as a learning experience.

Really sorry to hear that Maz! sounds like it could have been a lot worse!

As Toni said, make sure you get the best tyres you can next time (do Mk3's have staggered sizes like the Mk2's?)

Chin-up though! i'm sure you'll get it all sorted.

The likely hood of ice would have been pretty high to be honest Toni. Very cold last night judging by all the gritters I spotted on my travels home from work! :( Having said that I couldn't agree more regarding the need for some good quality tyres. Bad weather or not! :)

Nah Toni, there's always ice/diesel/oil/etc on the road whenever anyone crashes ;) *cough*

Anyway - it's surprisingly easy to get the rear end out on the relatively underpowered Mk3 - I seem to manage it every night leaving work (blind junction, so I can't hang about otherwise I might get t-boned by someone), and it's especially easy at this time of year - cold tyres, damp air, extremely cold road surfaces all add up to mean very little grip when you first start your journey.

Especially with crap tyres.

Toyo T1-R would be my recommendation there, and try to keep the front-rear width stagger that Toyota put there for a reason (standard there is a 30mm stagger in width on the pre '03 cars, I forget what it is on post '03)

Really sorry to hear that. Hope the damage is easily fixable and you're ok.

Oh yes - forgot to add - you may well find that the rear track control arm(s) is bent and needs replacing, but that's cheap enough, and potentially the same goes for the front track rods depending on how hard you clouted the kerb.

PM Adam (Jap GT300) over on MR2ROC if you need bits, as he'll very likely have them in or know where to get them at a decent price.

Translation:

"I was putting my foot down way too much to catch up with the other cars, and suddenly hit a patch of TARMAC!"

Sorry, but the fact you call yourself 'Essexgirlracer' says it all.

Glad you're unharmed, but leave the racing for the track.

Yeah I nearly spun my car on ice last summer.

Or was that cause I foot my foot down in 1st gear and boosted round a bend?

That's right guys! make the girl feel better why don't you? Has no-one else ever had a mishap in their car? Can't believe the reaction she's getting!

MikeJC has already posted about the state of the roads in the area last night and the fact it is early january, could there not have been any ice on the road??? Or perhaps it was her fault? i'm sure she doesn't need telling anyway!

Some people on here make me sick, when you crash your cars i'll be sure to jump straight in and tell you how stupid you were!

Nice to see some compassion on here for a fellow MR2 owner in an accident.

We all make mistakes, so I doubt if she'll do the same manouvre again.

Anyone else want to have a twist of the knife?

If I crash my car I think I can be responcible enough to admit it was my fault.

 Toys.. everywhere! Careful where you step, folks.

Danny, I didn't see a single person call her stupid, nor anything even remotely close.

People simply pointed out that it was more likely driver error than ice/grease/a disturbance in the force.

Ditto. I can tell you now that every time the back end of my car has come out it has been down to one thing and one thing only:

Too agressive for the prevailing conditions (too much throttle, too much speed, too agressive with the wheel < pick one.)

Again, I didn't see any 'knife twisting' going on - merely some honesty.

:-k Wonder if people would be leaping to the defence if the original poster had been male? :-k

Just thinking..

Honestly Mike, and to think we share the same name! [-X

The roads are bad at the moment and are more than capable of catching out even the most experienced of 2 owners so cut the Lady some slack :) You don't have to be pushing it all that hard to get the back out should you hit ice and I would bet vast numbers from this site would struggle to gain control in such a case #-o After all we're only human, well some of us at least. I've had my doubts about that Mark Edwards fello for some time now! :-k

When you guys go out at night and its cold and dark do you

Drive like a mad man till you hit some ice and scare the crap out of you and then drive in a safe way know more ice could be out

Or do you get in your car and think could be ice on the road and drive safe from the start.

She could of well hit some ice on the road, I couldnt tell you, but you have to be prepared to have ice on the road late at night this time of year.

She has crashed her car and im sorry about it, I dont want people to crash cars just so I can tell them they are a child killer rararararar.

I just think if you are honest admit you was wrong you might get some more respect from people.

Hope the damage isnt too bad and you are back on the road in no time. :)

No Mike, Mark is certainly not human! (he eats tent pegs for god sake!) :D

I'm not arguing with anyone else on here, what's the point? it's like hitting your head against a brick wall with some people, like this ](*,)

Nevermind.

Anyway, back to topic. Hope you get the car sorted Maz, and buy some good tyres!

The main thing is nobody got hurt.

Was reading that on the ZSOC forums a poor bloke lost control of his car and killed a mother of two.

I see your point, the last thing you need after a crash is to be flamed, however, if she'd come clean to start with those responses wouldn't have happened. You have to admit that it clearly doesn't stack up - driving sensibly at 20mph in a straight line and then suddenly snaking all over the road and doing a complete 360 spin into the crash barrier doesn't add up!
I went into the deserted snowy/icy 'open plan' carpark at work over Christmas (yes, had to work :/) purposely doing >30 whilst being silly with throttle & handbrake, even in those conditions I struggled to turn the car through a full 360!
IMO to lose the car in the fashion described, the car would've been accelerating much too hard for the conditions and she lost it. Even under these circumstances I *do* feel sorry for her, we've all been silly at the wrong moment, some of us are luckier than others though and get away with it. But the point the others are making is why not just come clean about how it happened, people would be far more compassionate if they could see the person admitted to a mistake and now had to deal with their loss.
Seems to be a running theme whenever someone crashes - "I was trundling along at 29mph and suddenly hit some frozen black diesel, for some unknown reason my turbo then generated full boost and I rolled the car 9 times, slid on my roof for 2 miles before coming to rest in a ditch. Pesky ice!"
