She could of well hit some ice on the road, I couldnt tell you, but you have to be prepared to have ice on the road late at night this time of year.

She has crashed her car and im sorry about it, I dont want people to crash cars just so I can tell them they are a child killer rararararar.
I just think if you are honest admit you was wrong you might get some more respect from people.

What plannet are you from? I have been driving MR2's for the last 3 years now in one form or the other so I can tell you from personal experience, the Lady's story possibly isn't the black and white story you are reading! Let me say it in plain English for you.....you do not have to be driving hard in an MR2 to get into trouble whilst on icy roads! I will freely admit that their are of course going to be some who are no doubt that bit better at handling the situation, ie when things do get out of shape, but that doesn't give you the right to pass judgment in such a way!

I really do think their should be some form of IQ test before being allowed to join iMOC

As Toni said, make sure you get the best tyres you can next time (do Mk3's have staggered sizes like the Mk2's?)

Again, I didn't see any 'knife twisting' going on - merely some honesty.

My point was that whether or not it was anyone's fault, the last thing someone wants to hear after any situation with their pride and joy is negativity.
I've messed up things in the past and blamed the equipment - computers, cars, power tools, etc (ho ho! A bad workman and all that!) - we all have.

I too worked over christmas in the snow and went around our carpark having a bit of fun, and being someone who's span an mr2 coming off a greasy roundabout and being a dick with the throttle on bad tyres i found it surprisingly hard to get things out of shape at the slow speed.

Why imoc has turned into a e-dick competition recently i don't know, it's not very pleasant though.

Cheap tires and cold weather are lethal in mr2's. All it takes is being slightly tired or even having the radio on too loud and you can easily end up in a nasty slide.

People forget how much difference the tires make on these cars - I am willing to bet that everyone slagging her off is running decent tires and hasnt experience the phenomenon! Anyone who wants a good explanation, just have a chat to Chris Huntley and ask him about his session at Donington on the Nankangs

Obviously in this case, she was going too fast for the conditions, otherwise she wouldnt have crashed! However, given the poor conditions and cheap tires I would be inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt. It really can happen to anyone, regardless of driving ability.

Best option this time of year is to leave the MR2 on the drive

Hi just to add that I am glad your ok, that the car will easily be fixed and you will hopefully very soon back behind the wheel you obviously love so much...behind a MR2!

As the prvious people have said, a moments foolishness or just being caught unawares by ice, grit or soemtime **cough** lack of sleep, we've all done it at some point.

In myy previous car, an MG Midget I managed to put a little too much welly, clipped a kerb narrowly missed a lampost by 2 or so inches, blew out both front and rear tyres and buckled my wheels! Considering both wheels were wire wheels I was lucky...

But Ive had an odd moment in my 2 too! I ate a kebab dropped it down my shirt, looked down to pick it up and **BANG** hit the kerb and done my caliper.

At the end of the day, its all an experience but the main thing is that your not hurt or that your 2 hasn't had too much damage too.

Sorry to hear your car's been in the wars, your really not alone having a prang this time of year in your 2!

To be honest I find it quite surprising your mk3 breaking away like that, and like others before me can mostly put it down to poor tyres.
In my experience I find the mk3 considerably more controllable than the mk2 when it comes to 'surprise' oversteer moments.
I fondly recall going on a trackday at Elvington in my mk2 Turbo with really poor tyres and exploring the grip level and was pretty surprised at the difference in grip having been there previously with puka Toyo's fitted.

FWIW - Here's a small video of my 360º spin as a token reminder that cheap tyres are an absolute no-no!
Fortunately I was on the track and despite my best efforts to countersteer the spin, it broke away so quickly I was simply hanging on!

I've wondered myself at times mate.

The chance of ice last night was very high, i came home the 20 miles or so from Andi's last night and the gritters had been out everywhere. I've had nearly 4yrs with this car now so know what i'm doing with it and i have decent tyres (learnt that one early on) and i found it fairly slippy last night. Easy to catch you out if you're not ready for it.

I would wager you did - as bucket seats I have since found out make a hell of a lot of difference... one of the best modifications out there if you want to improve handling - ie feedback to the driver is amazing.

Good vid there - typical mid engined RWd spin with the snap back by not getting the opposite lock off quick enough. There is one of me somewhere losing it through Camp at Castle Combe and ending up in the corn field - I'll see if I can find it!

As for the girl, give her a little sympathy - granted, it depends how you drive it (e.g. my 50 year old mum had no probs with my tubby for three weeks) but the conditions can catch out the unwary - happens to the best of us and the holier than thou atittude doesn't really play.

i think it all depends as you say on the seat - but most importantly the Runners/ subframe.

with mine the standard Mk2 runner was used and modified to fit the seat - it's actually now LOWER than the original leather seats.

couple of new holes drilled iinto the sidemouts will sort that out tho.

that's it back on Topic ! - Maz i hope you get it sorted soon, I too have had a spin - when mine was an NA. 45 degree bend in the road from traffic lights - building upto an A road (slip road to join it) - so needed to get upto speed - but it was snowing and yes i planted my foot too much.. snaked left right .. me over compensating .. then wedged it 30" up a grass embankment.

I was a n0b, but as we are human we LEARN by our mistakes.

not saying that it was Maz's fault in her case as i wasn;t there to pass judgement - but in mine it was, and i have certainly learned to behave - especially as now i have 237RWHP compared to 120 odd

Probably didn't help that you lifted off? I only span my car once at elvington and it was when I lifted off after losing the back end.... the other times I kept the power on I managed to catch it.

Sorry girl I only meant to point out gently that the tyres were probably more to blame than the weather conditions or crap on the road - suddenly I get a load of criticising freeloaders!!

Most of us have been caught out, indeed the 'first' time I slid out in my first ever MK1 waaay back in 1997 or so it was due to a low treaded tyre...

Be careful people. Last year a GTR owner lost control of his car and died to to defective tyres and low pressure. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to keep them in tip top condition and of a good brand. All IMHO.
