sub section housing behind passenger seat

Post by richie_luton »

Guys and gals,

I arranging my amp/sub setup and was wondering has anyone ever cut out the metal section that the original sub fires out of, ths droping my sub enough to ensure a better fit.

is this good practice or not a good idea?

Metal Cutting

Post by AlexB »

As far as i'm aware there's no problem cutting the metal section out the front of the sub enclosure but most people just put an MDF lid on and mount speakers/sub into that and then re-carpet.If you want to cut out the whole section it just means more hasle and you can't return the car to it's original condition plus adding new fixing points, definitely posssible though! :-k

If you design the boxes right you can make use of this bar!, to secure the box and use the volume inside! ( see affiliates section for my design if you fancy buying a ready made one!) This still allows the seat to be reclined and to go to the second last notch backwards, about half inch off the last notch, so pretty much all the way!

I would decide on what sub you want to put there before hammering it out! If you want a 10 or shallow 12, you can get away with not, allowing you to reverse it if you ever want to easily! if you want a 15 or deep sub hack away!

heh, is that a 714 amp there i spy?

*edit* for all the uber coolness of your new sub encloser you have an ultra gar direct line tax disk holder to compensate for it!

the balance is restored!

Sub came with the car, it's a kac-646x (kac being the operative term :))

I totally forgot about the tax disc holder, again it came with the car. It just sort of blends in... i really must change that
