Yes, she's just a hooligan! If I were you Alex I'd get *divorced* and take the SC with you. But then we'd have to have another election for Membership Admin!

Donnigton track day

Post by peterjf »

The Fosters had a great day yesterday despite being responsible for two red flag sessions ( visiting the pit wall and spreading coolant all over the track). All 3 cars returned home safely. Thanks to Anna for an intro to SC travel ,VERY ENLIGHTENING. only downside was attitude of caterfield drivers who seem to be able to flout what is initially stressed as unbreakable rules.Perhaps Book-a-track could organise them a day on there own. Thanks to Anna,Speedy and Tom( sorry our outing only lasted 1 lap) for help and advice.

Pheew! :D Thank God for that. Is Becky's car 100% ok? If so it must have been the trapped overflow pipe, yes? :-k I really hope so, it sounds like she's had a lot of bad luck recently.

I absolutely have to agree with you. I've been to quite a few trackdays now and I must admit that was the worst track etiquette I have ever seen. I've been thinking about this. I mainly drive at Cadwell and Ty Croes (Anglesey). Both these tracks are extremely narrow. I can only assume that the Caterfield drivers think that because Donington is so wide it's perfectly acceptable to flout the rules and push you offline onto the dirty part of the track. I would have brought this up with Jonny, but I hardly saw him all day. I will mention this to Lauren though.

They already do. But Caterfields are so popular for track use they always appear at every single trackday.

No problem at all. And the single lap we did showed me that your car has PLENTY of horsepower!

donnington track day

Post by peterjf »

Good pics Tom. How did you get over there? good job it wasnt in morning you could have become my new bonnet badge??

Do you know of any body who has been black flagged on a siting lap, all 3 of my cars were,. The reason was not wearing helmets? Before going onto track all 3 drivers were spoken to by lady marshall, I was told to close my window, drove past 2 more marshalls, still no comment. Then after 2 laps, black flagged, then told about helmets. Did we miss it at the briefing? as in the past at track days this has not been a requirement.

This rather set the trend for the day. My three drivers didn't get an initial feel for the track and it certainly didn't help with my spin as I aimed at a cone sited 8 feet away from edge of track going down hill from Redgate, boost on-brain off and as grass was soaking wet we tobogganed downhill and double slapped tyre wall =Damaged car= damaged ego=sharp pain in wallet.
We are having Becky's car checked out tonight to see if any more damage has occured hopefully only coolant loss. So an eventfull day but very enjoyable all the same, Donnington is a superb circuit always a good test for begginers and experienced drivers Lets hope it better controlled next time

ahhh - that's why the black flags were out! (I thought someone had been over the noise limit already!)
I've always worn my helmet for siting laps - but I don't think it ever gets mentioned at the briefing. tbh it sounds like lax bat check/marshall check if that's the way it's supposed to work. I think they were more worried about the routes that people took through scruitineering in the morning to be honest...

I usually try and ignore the cones as much as pos as they don't usually get replaced throughout the day when someone gets a bit keen!
It's a shame that you all suffered from no siting laps though, as that does give an idea of lines, and grip.

Hope your car(s) aren't too badly off... I did have a think on the way home about the coolant explosion, and tbh, if the return pipe is blocked in some way, then the cool down lap is exactly then there would be a problem (i.e. coolant gets really hot from several quick laps - starts expanding, and because atmosphere pipe is blocked, builds pressure in expansion bottle. Start cool down lap, coolant gets even hotter from reduced air flow cooling, more expansion/pressure in coolant leading to enough pressure to force the expansion bottle cap off).
