When we first got the car and started to survey what we'd purchased, it was clear just how much effort (and money) had been put into it. It became quickly apparent that there was no way it could just be used as a donor.

It's arguably far better set up than any of my previous cars. Excluding the Busa of course, that was next level OCD'd!

Insurance transfer! Must sort that first thing tomorrow! #-o  Oh, and remember it's not moved much for some time. Give the old girl chance to put some ointment on her back

Oh, new (replacement) door collected today! Picked it up from what can only be described as an MR2 graveyard. A very sorry sight! :( I got the urge to go full mad cat woman and rescue them all!

Red one looks like it has some nice parts. Good luck with it.

Definitely a lot of nice parts on that red one

Looks like it may possibly be an "ultra" under brace :thumleft:

I get confused who's car this is, yours or Petes! Or are you living together and I'm really confused?

I can appreciate it's probably a bit confusing.

Both the Rev 5 and the Rev 2 are my cars. The Rev 5 Pete and I purchased together, but I later bought him out of it. The Rev 5 is up with me (Nottingham).

The Rev 2 was a distance purchase, shipped directly to Pete (down to Kent), as he's doing all the initial work. Which is much appreciated. It was due to be used as a donor for the Rev 5, but I've since decided to keep it and restore it back to its former glory, and beyond. I've still yet to physically see it, but I'll going down there in a couple of weeks.

Another step closer today: It's moved! :D

I'll let Pete tell you about the brakes...

Dropped off at the welder. She definitely needs a good few hours with the machine polisher and some wax!

Image

Home for the next couple of days or so.

The welding is being done Wednesday evening, ready for the MOT on Thursday.

I think I'll leave it stock to be honest. Obviously tidied up substantially but the focus is performance over aesthetics. Done the kitted thing and it became a victim of its own styling. I want to use this thing properly, not worry about paint and hanging bits.

The wheels will be repainted. Not sure what colour yet, maybe a Ferric Grey or similar :-k

Does look smart stock, even in the pics above! Wheels will set it off nicely in that colour.

Still tempted to revert mine to stock as the next chapter in the project!

Only need a rev 3 front lip, I have all the other stock panels. No rush though.....

The Brakes   they are awesome

And it drives perfectly as it is.. it actually needs for nothing when driving it, just cleaning of the paint

I have been spoiled by modern turbos... 90s turbo lag \:D/ \:D/

It goes well, it is loud so ill expect the exhaust to be changed at somepoint if i am honest, knowing Phil, it is livable and sounds good but it is loud, proper 90s jap exhaust

Pulled well, alignment felt great, forgot how good the V70a track tyres are even in the wet..

Should do. Something like this I'm thinking:

I did wonder when you'd go full circle

It's not lag, it's the optional Anticiptation Enhancer Module. £75 option don't you know

Rot busting has started. It was a little worse than first expected, as you'll see..

Image

What lurked underneath..

Image

Then the chopping really started.

Image

Image

Image

Fix up (look sharp).

Image

Inner sill in place.

Image

Then the outer.

Image

Paint and protection. Schutz, apparently.

Image

Image

All back together.

The finish can/will be flattened down later.

It's going to be a few more days before the other side's done, so the MOT has inevitably been postponed until afterwards. Not really an issue as there's not a whole bunch that can be done for the time being anyway. The main thing is we're another step closer to bringing this thing back to life :)

Definitely heading in the right direction with the Rev 2. The Rev 5 on the other hand.... :(

I've spent some time doing the thing I've been putting off for so long: Assessing and tackling the body rust.. It's the one thing I have zero interest in doing on cars. It's by no means falling to bits, far from it. However, based on what I've seen today it's become clear that it needs more than I have time to give it right now. Especially with another MR2 being restored at the same time.

First up was the OS rear arch. There was bubbling under the paint so I took the Dremel to it for a deeper look.

As it stood.

Image

Post grind.

Image

Image

Kurust applied.

Image

The outer sills need attention, the OS more than the NS. The NS is actually solid, but is showing signs of starting to crmuble on the tyre facing edge. This is the OS.

Image

After some grinding, taking it back to solid metal.

Image

Image

Kurust applied everywhere!

Image

Lower sill.

Image

Only got this much off before I ran out of pads for the Dremel #-o It's enough to give me peace of mind that it really is mainly surface rust. The metal is solid underneath, it just looks terrible!

Image

Kurust applied.

Image

This is where I ran out of time. One thing it has confirmed in my mind is that the car is either going to be sold, or if it comes to it, broken. I rather avoid the latter, as the wider car is still a beauty. It really needs someone who acknowledges it will probably need one or both arches replacing and ultimately a respray. With that it would be a stunner, I've just not got the time or drive to be that guy right now. Rev 2 is quite enough for me right now.

What to do?! :-k :(
