not a real update as such but here goes:

as you may be aware my self imposed deadline to finish the car

(by finish I mean have it roadworthy at least) was the

"simply japanese" show at Beaulieu motor museum

so car ready, bags packed and with a little bit of reservation in the back of my mind

(I'd never done a proper

'long' journey in the car and didn't particularly want the odd misfire that has happened a couple of times to crop up half way to portsmouth in the middle of the night.

.

.

) I set off for the sunny south coast

It was really nice to be actually driving it

'properly'

(i.e not to/from the mot, rollers, mapping/logging etc) for the first time in ages, driving into the sunset with nothing else but the road ahead was pretty cool.

I was happy that it made it down south with no issues at all, took it gently sat at 70ish most of the way bar a couple of little blasts, cruising afr's are really good and I was pleasantly surprised with the fuel economy.

unfortunately Hampshire's finest decided to pull me off the motorway a few miles before the end of the journey while I was sat doing 69mph in the inside lane

"because I have got a big exhaust and small number plates", they started going over the car trying to find something wrong, checking tyres, shining their torch down the exhaust

(why?!) and then started to measure the letters on my plates with a tape measure when they got a shout for some real policing and left me alone

- they'd obviously ANPR'd me, found out I was legit but
still
wanted to find something wrong

I had the car out for a few countryside drives with some mates and it's been great, the only adjustments I had to make was to stiffen the rear dampers up a few clicks

the friday before the show Mrs C35rob flew down to southampton to meet me, we did the touristy things around portsmouth

(submarine museum, historic dockyard etc) on the saturday then it was an early start on the sunday to meet up with the other MR2 owners and continue on the last few miles into beaulieu in convoy

unfortunately I was too busy cleaning the car and then wandering the showground to really meet everyone but the people I did get chance to talk too were all a friendly bunch

I didn't take too many pictures of the car but here's a few the mrs snapped

(that's me with the bottle of coke)

I got loads of other pictures of other cars, most of which are on my instagram, if anyone cares

The mrs flew back on the sunday and the car stayed down south with me until I got chance to bring it home this friday, it's been totally faultless, I've done a few more ECU tweaks

(altered the cranking inj MS for hot starting, some very minor

"around town" driving stuff and throttle tip-in)

so all in all pretty successful, I've got a brand new NGK coil here waiting to be fitted, as well as the AEM water/meth kit.

The wiring bits needed to fit it have been delivered too so that'll be done when I next get some free time over the next few weeks.
