The car looks great Jim but in all Honesty you are now spending much money and time for little rewards, Have you considered changing a larger item like the turbo etc . ?

Depends on the definition of reward I guess??

250hp or 450hp, I'd still want the car and engine bay to look it's best.

The car is super reliable touch wood, never lets me down. No hassles with tuners, engine builders, everything is down to me and my own labour etc.

I just come back from a 100+mile blast around the kent country side as it happens on a mr2 group run. Ran sweet as a nut.

Sure i loved the 1/4 mile action last year, I made more passes than most, the car not only saw drag days but also track days too, if that isn't reward from a reliable and simple car I don't know what is.

Would I love another 400hp+ car, sure. But I can't knock how good the gen3 engine is out the box, not to mention those 1/4 mile times are faster than many of the bigger spec cars on here past and present. 😎 It's not exactly slow these days, even if it isn't making what most would consider big power.

If a nice condition 3071 came up I would seriously consider it. But I've been waiting for one since day one, ha.

Productive day on Friday at Rogue Motorsport!!

Finally got round to having my new OS Giken twin plate R2CD clutch and CRW axle cage upgrade installed!!
Big thanks to Matt and Dan for carrying out the work and getting it all done in a day.

I've been weighing up fitting these myself for a while but I'm glad I didnt attempt the clutch on the driveway on my own as they run into a couple of issues that would have left me stumped! Main one being the flywheel bolt heads had been grinded down to fit the previous clutch (ogura single plate). Which made getting a socket on them a nightmare. Ended up having to weld nuts on top to get them off.

Also while everything was off. Had some Redline CV2 grease for the cages and some new Millers CRX gearbox oil.

Initial impressings on the drive home, very bitey! Less slippage window for sure, and when it catchs, you know it. ;-)
Will take a little getting used too, but I wast expecting the clutch to be lighter than the single plate and surprisingly a quieter rattle when it's disengaged too!
But it certainly is a more on/off clutch than the ogura.

Had a chance for a run out yesterday in the dry (friday was a monsoon wash out!), along with some decent boost, boy the clutch grabs the engine by its neck and yanks it forward, love it. Really does snap into gear.
Placebo effect maybe, but feels like engines holding more power, wouldn't be surprising really given how old the ogura clutch was and the use it had over the last few years.
The old flywheel and plate showed signs of a lot of heat and on one side of the plate it had worn down on the edges to the bone.
Done me well, but looks like it was indeed on its last legs so perfect time for a change.

When OS Giken clutch showed up from Japan!
Thanks to Greenline motorsports for sourcing the clutch, only took 9 days from payment to delivery, very happy with the service.

Friday at Rogue, 5am start for me and a 2.5-3hr drive in the monsoon weather we had!

Some new tyres to source for the rear, and looks like I'll be ready to hit the 1/4 again.
Depending on how I get on with the 20b, will depend if I go bigger or even consider fitting the st205cc I have tucked away.

Oh, almost forgot, also trying out a Apexi SAFC2 as suggested by the Rob and 2mad.
I've been playing around with fuel pressure again along with the new SAFC and seems I may have a compromise to my low down lean condition. Watch this space.

Sorry must have missed a few developments, did you change from hybrid to CT20b? Why and you prefer?

Few pics and info couple of pages back I think.

I had a nice condition 20b I was going to send to ats racing to make into a hybrid but thought I'd try it out anyways and enjoy it for what it is and I'm happy with its performance.

Better spool up compared to the hybrid and feels similar if not the same top end, so we'll see.

I chased Jim on that 100 mile trip and drive with Jim on a reasonably regular basis.

Iit's one of the healthiest turbos i've seen in the last year. Bloody fast, doesn't smoke, doesn't smell, throws flames when it's properly hot. It's also very well kept, I doubt it ever sees rain.

Glad the clutch has turned out well, sounds like the trip to rogue was a sensible decision.

Ha. Thanks gav.

It certainly saw some rain on Friday! 5-6 hours back and forth to rogue on Friday which was more than annoying.

However one plus point, it steam cleaned my gearbox would you believe!! Happy days.

also new coolant temp sensor for ecu, dizzy and rotor arm. car appreciates those items it seems! happy days.

new exhaust gaskets.

Image

also took delivery of new R1Rs for the rear, current ones only lasted a year! maybe 3-4k miles.

reconfiguring the boot, hoping to loose a little more weight. decided to ditch the boot mat and very small items to take another 5-10kg out the car.

also in a bold move, im considering vinyling the side strips, along with black center panel and rev5 blade (maybe)

quick iphone edit

after

I had my fog lights removed. However, rather than source a 3SFE front bumper, I had the fog light side mounts in the bumper removed and fill in, then meshed the holes with anodized rings. Also had the middle bar edges prepped and painted:

Just a bit of food for thought. Just a bit tidier, and doesn't look like you've just removed the fog lights and left it like that. :thumleft:

just looking for something a bit more eye catching.

its reversible, hence the idea incase i dont like it, or it doesnt last well.

cheers craig, yeh my last car didnt come with fogs, never bothered me if you remove the wiring at least. but yeh the shroud its incased in could remove that too.

just looking for ideas really, again, reversible ones.

Don't scare us by vinyling the side strips, centre panel and spoiler blade in black then.
