Hi folks.
My 2.0 turbo rev3 import has a crunching gearbox in 3rd 4th and sometimes 5th. If i block change from 2nd to 5th it wont change at all.
Reverse doesnt crunch. No whining and no falling out of gear. All gears very notchy though.
Have changed the selector bushes. Im just hoping for an easy fix before i fork out for loads of money for a recon or replacement box.

Re: help with crunching gearbox 3sgte
Merely speculation, but I had a similar problem which turned out to be perished clutch slave cylinder seals. I'm sure someone more qualified will be along soon to confirm or deny that possibility.
Re: help with crunching gearbox 3sgte
How did you diagnose that mate?
Re: help with crunching gearbox 3sgte
Also the bite point is right on the floot pretty much. Ive adjusted it by unscrewing behind the pedal which lifted it about 2cm off the floor but still crunching
Re: help with crunching gearbox 3sgte
Check the fluid level, I'm presuming the mc is not leaking as you would of noticed it when adjusting the pedal. Next place to look is slave cylinder attached to gearbox, remove the rubber boot and if leaking will need to be replaced.
Re: help with crunching gearbox 3sgte
No nothing leaking by pedal.
How do i check the slave? I dont even know what it looks like. Do i need to remove stuff?

The clutch is your problem. It needs bleeding to get any air out. It may be one of the cylinders has seal problems too.

Re: help with crunching gearbox 3sgte
Thanks mate. How do you do that? I can find the how2 on bleeding the clutch but how do i check the seals?

Take a look at the clutch master cylinder (near the brake master cylinder in the frunk), if the fluid is a murky black then it could be indicative of knackered seals.
Mine was gopping, really thick and murky so I bought a replacement seal kit from Peter Gidden on here and had it fitted by Rogue whilst other work was carried out.
Re: help with crunching gearbox 3sgte
I have the same problem, mate.
New clutch and resurfaced fly, bled right through, including slave.
I can't adjust the pedal push rod any further, but my bite is still on the floor and I get slight clutch drag and crunching at higher RPM.

Fit a longer push rod in the slave cylinder

Was wondering about the feasibility of this. But I have been struggling to see why I should need to.
Is this problem a fairly common occurence?
That said, I do. I will look into it, when the car comes off the road, shortly.
Any idea where to look for a donor? (Haven't checked diameter, thread pitch etc yet.)

I just found a long bolt and cut it to the size I wanted.
