Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
2 cracks in my aussie downpipe! Pretty sure it was caused by premature engine mount failure!
Hopefully getting it welded tomorrow so I can get the car back on the road
Have you been using the support bracket for the Aussie DP?
I've been running an Aussie DP for 12 months and all OK so far. I do, however, have the support bracket installed.
Id wondered about the support bracket too but if the engine mount goes the engine is going to move more than the exhaust can cope with surely? So it might not have broke up where it has if the support bracket was on but it would have put pressure on other bits. Guess the flexi might have took it ok?
The support bracket for the Aussie downpipe actually braces the pipe against the block so when the engine moves then the downpipe moves the same amount.

Thats why exhausts have flexi joins
I've had my Aussie downpipe on my car for over 20,000kms/15 months and its fine, mine didnt come with a bracket but made one up to bolt it to the block
SUPPORT BRACKET, SUPPORT BRACKET & SUPPORT BRACKET.
You must make sure its fitted with your down pipe or else its very likely to crack no matter what make it is
