Timing belt kits

Post by SuperRedMR2 »

Hi,

I'm buying a cambelt kit tomorrow, do they come with the springs for the tensioner and does anyone have the part number for the bolt?

Cheers

Now getting a torque wrench on one of those, engine in situ, is a challenge

Again, common sense just dictates it gets nipped up tight.

I've done well over 500 Mk1 belts in my time and always just nipped the bolt up tight.

LOL

Yeah that's not going to be torqued up. With the water pump pulley off you could get to it though haha.

I'm sure Peter would find a way.

My Snap on 3/8ths angled torque wrench would get in there, but i just nip them as tight as i can, never had a problem in 15 years and 500+ belt changes.

The nice part of putting a new timing pointer/bolt on is that the original ones were 12 point/star shaped, and could easily be damaged if torqued tightly. Toyota started supplying 6-point ones quite some time ago, which are much easier to deal with.
