Driveshaft bolts falling out

Post by Bumble-bee »

Hi guys!

Me again!! My car seems to be nothing but trouble! But recently the 6 Bolts on each driveshaft come loose - the bolts found near the gater- I've tried everything!! And even loctite and they still just fall out, what the bloody hell is happening!! The threads are fine they screw in perfectly it's just the seem to vibrate loose no matter what I do!

Any advice on how to get these to stay in? It's a constant worry every time I use the car if they are done up properly

Make sure they are clean from cv grease etc and just put them in tight. Go back to them after a week or so and just nip them up again if needed

Degreased, and clean and dry. Then Loctited and torqued up. Never had one come loose.

I wiped the screws clean but inside the thread it still greasy? How do I clean that? Or should the loctite work on that?

Use something like gunk to get the worst off then spray some isopropyl in there, brake cleaner or something

I only ever spilt a CV joint when i'm overhauling it, so i wash it out in the parts cleaner prior to reassembly.

Loctite will not work on greasy threads.

You are using a torque wrench to tighten them properly?

What torque should they be set too?

And yeah I'll wipe some cloth in the and then spray brake cleaner in there and put more loctite on and then torque them up hope it all works properly after that :(

There just socket heads from memory, halfords do individual hex sockets to fit a ratchet for about £5, you'll probably want a 3/8th drive version due to access which if your torque wrench is 1/2inch drive you'll need a 3/8th to 1/2inch adapter again halfords will have one on the shelf
