Any more ideas on a possible date?

I will start to look at dates seriously after my santa pod day i am organising (are you all coming?!!!)
Then can put better effort in :D

not exactly in leicester though are they? didn't particularly like the figures seen at Nobles last time, what with their guestimate flywheel power calculation. Rather get power figures at the wheels like Streetracers can do.

In Chesterfield? Do they quote you an equivalent flywheel figure or do they just quote real rwhp? If they guestimate flywheel bhp, what kind of percentage losses are they talking?

If it's a feasible loss I may come.

they guestimate flywheel figures by using a coast-down. they don't use a percentage loss and they don't give at the wheels figures that's why i would rather try somewhere different, and also they are quite expensive.

Danny, "coast down" is nonsense. It doesn't work. Please believe me 'cos my final year project was involved with this. The only reliable figure is rwhp.

If they don't quote rwhp I'm not interested at all.

I agree with you totally, this ain't the place to go.

You're not wrong there! :D

14 -20 % losses are feasible for a 2 wheel drive transverse gearbox.

20% is just about feasible if your gearbox and final drive is really knackered!

Anything over that is pure nonsense!

I've seen loads of places quoting 30% losses! It's utter nonsense but it appears loads of people believe it! ](*,)

indeed, and the place that Jo has suggested will do us, percentage guestimate, coast-down or ATW figures so everyone's a winner! \:D/

Like most places these days, Nobles use TAT software which uses coast down loses to estimate drivetrain losses, its not perfect but its better than a % guess. Anyone with a GCSE in physics ought to figure out that straight % loss calculations are a waste of time. From what I can gather the coast down losses offer an empiracle alternative which seems to be pretty acurate. Conversely working with wheel figures only, seems to provide a huge variation in power figures for the same car, on the same day as things like the tyres, and transmission warm up for example. Even though the engine is still making the same, or usually less power on each succesive run.

Interestingly enough the TAT software will allow you to plot pretty much anything you like, so if you asked they could plot rwhp instead, however most decent dyno centers that have bothered to invest in TAT software will present you with a fwbhp figure from the losses. Its your money, its your choice.

Having spent more time on dyno's than most, I usually like to see both.

Neiol.

And Jonno, please, please, please can I go to a trackday with you as a passenger? I found a really unfeasible excuse to go and look at your car at Bri's Powerhouse place when I knew it was there after you bursted a cylinder liner. I like it! 8)

In fact can't tempt you to this, can I? Click on my thread below:
http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic. ... 65&start=0

How much boost, horsepower (rwhp) are you running now?

( Sorry Jo, I've hi-jacked your thread! - will get back on topic soon)
