Best insurance policy for under-25s

Post by Tubster »

Hi guys, so I'm looking to buy an MR2 Turbo (actually put a deposit down on one!) and I'm wondering what companies you guys use for mildly-modified twos?

By the way, if I end up getting this MR2 expect to see a lot more from me on this forum!

Both Sky Insurance and Flux are affiliated with IMOC so should be your first port of call, both may require performance/RWD car history
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.

I used admiral when I was 25, they have a limit on mods but are quite cheap. Any specialists I tried were either very expensive or wanted previous experience of a performance rwd, and a fair few won't insure anyone under 25.

Admiral here too. Flux was cheapest for me in my first year and Sky won't insure me due to being 23 - so probably not too great for U25s ;)

Got my quote with Admiral, £750 fully comp, and I've got it as SDP and Commuting as a 22 year old with 3 years NQ. :) Thanks guys!

Hopefully picking my MR2 up this weekend, just waiting for a call back from the current owner to check if he's available!

I know it was a bad move but yes a friend needed the cash and it was offered at a very decent price couldn't refuse

I'm with Adrian Flux - it's not the cheapest price in the world but I've got a highly modified car with a large V6 dropped in there. Plus I've got protected no claims bonus, hire car, legal protection, medical protection, an agreed value policy and they even have a seperate insurance policy on my excess so that if I crash I get paid my excess back within 10 days.

Every time I've phoned them up they've been a UK based call centre which have been friendly, helpful and haven't made any complaint no matter how often I chopped and changed my policy around. They've gone out of their way to help me.

I'd give them a call and discuss your situation, especially as they offer club discount :thumleft:

If people really want mr2s but don't want to pay for high insurance policies buy UK na cars and keep them standard. It's simple.

If you've already got a tubby and can't get insurance if it's highly modified just remove every single modification, return it to standard and then try to get a quote. Thinking logically - by stripping and selling all the mods on the car you also manage to reclaim some money back which can be ploughed into the insurance policy this technically costing you less :thumleft:

Can't comment as far as eligibility for U25s but if you are able to get classic cover, and you reckon the lower annual mileage limit won't be a problem, talk to Classicline or someone similar about a classic policy as generally these are a bit cheaper.

thanks for the input fella it is modified to a level and the mods alone are worth a bit so i may just do that but i think i`ll get a quote in the standard form first before stripping the car. :thumleft:
