Hi there the names Beki, I have owned my car for just over a year now and I would love to know some of its history? id love to know were shes travelled and maybe even see some picture of her when she was younger.

This may sound odd, but bear with me as a lot of people never do this and it gives a surprising amount of information

Dig out your last mot - on there is a section about checking previous mots online. This is the site you use:

https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history-vehicle

You will need your mot test number or your v5 number in order to do this.


This will give you practically a full history of your vehicle, its mileage at certain ages, periods off the road, advisories and failures on the mot, etc... It will also tell you which mot station has conducted the test, and therefore what parts if the UK your car has seen

I know it's not the personal history and photos that we all ideally want but its a great starting point and is a good indicator as to the life your car has led and what you may need to keep an eye on mechanically

Yes, it gathers together & reminds me of lots of interesting information

Goes back as far as 2006 (think that was when the MOTs were first computerised)

Nothing before then

I've owned mine 15 years, so the info I'd really like unfortunately isn't on there

if you go onto the dvla website....

http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla//data/relinf ... quest.aspx

and print off form V888 you can send that to dvla with a cheque for £5 and they will send you a copy of your cars microfiche showing all the previous keepers,the supplying dealer and every V5 and piece of paper submitted to them about the car since it was new...... very interesting stuff.
I've done this with loads of my classic cars and the info is really good.

I often write to the previous keepers enclosing a photo of the car and some info about it and it's surprising how many people love to hear about a car they sold many years earlier..... most are happy to tell you what they remember about it and occasionally dig out some old photos.
On the form, under 'why do you want this information', I put that I am restoring the car and would like it's previous history to keep in the cars history file.... always satisfies the dvla.

Hi there everyone, my update on my research on my car, I had a look at the https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history-vehicle but I have most of the mot's going back to when it was brought already but thanks for those that did recommend .

I decided to go through all the paper work, I have about the car and put it in to order of year. When I found something interesting a little note from the first owner Mrs Marian Cooper who I believe is probably not with us anymore, saying:

My husband died, so I sold 2 cars to Merc and brought 1 new (meaning the mr2 mk1). She then goes on to say that she sold my Mr2 for 9,000 pounds and from what I can gather that was a year or so after.

That's quite a personal touch for a car history. I guess we'd only ever expect receipts and MoTs normally. I like the idea that the lady consoled herself to some degree with a fun car. I hope it helped her to see life a little better.

If you're good on Excel you could do what I did and put all that info on a spreadsheet so you can track repairs etc with mileage and age. It helped me to get to grips with what parts had been replaced and when (assuming they weren't just bought and never installed).

Of course there will be gaps where receipts weren't kept but at least it fills in a lot of space.

That's such a good idea for a car with personality and I might just do that since my car is so standard and I'm trying to keep it the way the owners would remember it.

I can't imagine doing it with my Nissan Note...

Thank you Pete, lifes pretty busy at the moment but if i do get some time. I may start doing a spreadsheet. The MR2 and I are off to France tomorrow on a road trip around Europe. I will make a post of the trip with some pictures of her in the different places for you all to see. Ive decided to travel now as i am a mommy to be in october
