Hiya Dave, lovely car and been well looked after by yourself
- minus the monkey that fitted the rear bumper
! lol

Yiannos put the car through its MOT today and it stands him
£150 in repairs.

Tbh I think they stung him a little, with things like the number plates were
"marked" and windscreen wipers.
Also pulled it up on its emmisions, but believe a bit of DIY with the carb cleaner would have helped with that
!

But overall no complaints and hes now got some trouble free motoring for the next year or two
!

Still 150 isnt much, they probably didnt run it up to temp and give it a bit of a blip to reset the fuel a touch.
Always worked for me.
Went through first time last time.

As for the plate I just found the fresh front plate on my kitchen table that i meant to put in the boot.
It failed on that last time.
And the wipers were new about 18 months ago.
So probably pulling his chain a touch.

No-one believed me it was a sound car, and I hope he gets another 40k out of it.

Had to take my daughter to the hospital
(nothing serious) a bit later and saw you driving in the opposite direction and my old car in the petrol station.
He then followed me up to the motorway, bit gutting really as I loved that car.

Still I might get a beams next.
I miss my 2 already.

Re: [FINALIZED] 1998, Toyota MR2, £650, rev 4, Huddersfield Almostcomplete MrT Service history
LOL sorry mate, know the feeling.
.
.
Felt that way when I sold my first motorbike.
.
Hope cute little Jess is OK, btw

Aye, the guys at the MOT station had to change the filter and the oil and stuff, they said it looked like it was a bit long in the tooth, and they showed it to me to illustrate.
Not that I would be able to tell, mind you
;P
The wipers was my observation, cause there are trails on the windscreens.
.
I assumed it was them that were worn, but could be a previous pair.
.
As for the handbreak, it needed to have 150 bar pressure and, according to them, it had 100 only.
Could not afford to find the perfect MOT station, so I have to take their word for everything.

Other than all that, the car runs fine.
Engine sounds allright, pull is good, power is good, gearbox is excellent, and exactly as naughty as I expected, after Jim's warnings, when entering a turn in the wet
My few niggles.
.
I hear a sound from the rear right when I'm driving, and I cant figure out what it is, in the 3 times I took it to work and back.
Did that sound only once though.
Also, the stereo does not work right? Or is it just disconnected.
I've no clue.
AND I do feel that accelerator slightly sticking, but like you guys said, it needs a bit of lubrication.
thats what she said, and all that

Hope cute little Jess is OK, btw

The wiper mark happened the first time I took it to Toyota
(at 130k.
They said it needed wipers and replaced just the blade
( I had fresh ones at home ready to go on but they beat me to it) the metal then touched as it wasn't fitted right and marked the screen.
Sorted not long after.

The oil was due, due to using it on the motorway I took to doing it every 9k as per toyota guidelines, which is longer than it had been left most of its life, but time and house moves got in the way.

I had a fresh plate for the front as well sat on the table in the kitchen, forgot to put it in.
Should be something and nothing at the rear, might be a caliper sticking as its been sat still a few weeks.
Let the old girl run in a bit.
All the handbrake cables and one caliper were fresh on the rear.
One caliper on the front.

I would just get some carb cleaner on the throttle body, wipe it out and stick some wd40 on it.

I have the facia piece for the stereo but its in a box.
I had it put to one side when I put that stereo back in.
I'll send it when I find it.

Jess is fine
thanks for asking although After taking her to the hospital and seeing you come out of the petrol station and follow us to the motorway I did feel a bit sick.
Still life goes on.
I might get a beams next.

Pardon my being an MR2 newb, but, what is this

I assume there is no bit of

Re: [FINALIZED] 1998, Toyota MR2, £650, rev 4, Huddersfield Almostcomplete MrT Service history
Its a 200 bhp naturally aspirated motor with vvti
(variable valve timing) that was put in a few hundred mr2's in Japan only.
The engine went in celicas and the like as well so can be transplanted with the later gearbox.

Lots of arguments over that or a turbo being the better setup.

As far as I understand anyway.
I wait to be flamed over my lack of knowledge.

The trails have lessened a bit but you can get grinding polish for glass and try that.
You would have to do the whole thing or you may end up with a dip.
It gave up bothering me.

Re: [FINALIZED] 1998, Toyota MR2, £650, rev 4, Huddersfield Almostcomplete MrT Service history
Pretty much dude.

The beams is the fourth-gen 3S-GE, with inlet-only VVTi
(they developed dual VVTi on the Beams
"blacktop" as found in the Altezza, 210hp NA).
There were 1000 redtop Beams MR2s produced in Japan, revision 5 only.
All revision 5 NA imports are Beams cars.
Mine is December 1997, but I think that's just about the first ones they made, most are 98 or 99.
The number 1000 is debated a bit as there is no actual concrete proof.
As mentioned, there were also Beams Celicas etc.
, but worth noting if you transplant one of these redtops, the airbox is different.

It's essentially the same as the 3S-GE except it generates more torque and more power.
It has the feeling of being in a lower gear than you are when cruising generally, often I think I'm in third if I'm in fourth because of the responsiveness and torquey push.
Especially noticable up hills.

I've never had mine run against a turbo but I would imagine the turbo would be notably faster.
Even with the zero lag and the fancy tech, it's still 40hp short on a turbo MR2.

That said, you do get better MPG
(I average 30 around town driving), I'd say from my experiences, about 4-5mpg better across the range than my regular 3S-GE rev3.

The basic fact of the matter is it's a 3S-GE with a much improved intake system.

A very particular question for you: ever since I got the car, when I come back from work, there is an interruption in our Wi-Fi.
As if an outside interference messes with the frequency.
So my housemates have this theory, where the car's alarm is transmitting in a frequency where it messes the Wi-Fi up, and is therefore, the culprit.
Is there any possible truth in this, ie does the alarm have movement sensors that cause a disconnect in the Wi-Fi somehow?
I believe it is a coincidence, and I would never imagine a car alarm signal so strong as to interrupt a Wi-Fi, but I do park it right outside the window where the Wi-Fi hotspot is.
