Styling opinions please - side air ducts/vents

Post by KarlBristol »

I have been toying with the idea of fitting air ducts to my side vents. I do like the style of them but I don't know if it would look right or not as I've never seen them in the flesh and to be honest can't remember seeing a picture of them fitted properly. I also don't know how far they stick out from the car.

Plus I can only find them in carbon fibre and not black (which would be ideal)... But it would sort of go with my black and blue theme (would emphasize the black rub strips), and would give the car a little something else as it doesn't have a spoiler... So positives and negatives both sides really.

Not sure if it actually improves air flow or is just for style??

Thoughts? (Is there a reason they aren't popular?)

Is this another one of my ideas that creaps out when I'm bored and tired and shouldn't have made it onto the website? lol

Here is what I'm talking about (its the only set I can find):

Here is my car currently without:

On a standard car (bodywork wise) I'd leave them off mate. They work better with a kitted car IMO :thumleft:

Probably make a marginal improvement to air flow.

I don't much like em, all I'd do is remove the bar across the stock vents for the OEM+ look.

I agree with both of the above, Karl you are moving too far away from OEM with the duct add-ons but the single vent is a good mod and easily dooable.

You can get a spare set of vents really cheap on the forums and cut and fibre glass them and when you have the other parts on the car sprayed these can be done as well [is it obvious I've been reading your thread :)].

That way you have the originals to go back to if you want.

For your consideration. My car is fitted with those exact side ducts (CarBen Fibre brand) painted in hammerite 'hammer black'

What a thread revival  lol
I thought this topic looked familiar :D

I decided not to go for any side ducts in the end. I'm going for a streamlined, "less is more" look. Its going to be nice to have a complete sleeper of a car :D

If your interested in purchasing these ducts I think that carbenfibres does them :-k I think that they are a slightly modified version of the border ones IIRC, and can come either gel coated for you to paint or in carbon...

I still like them and think that there is a place for them on a lot of cars - just not mine :thumleft:

Yeah, and would look even better if they were blended / smoothed in.
