I also have the turbo-timer in the key fob for the alarm.But as Lauren pointed out you are better just driving off boost for the last couple of miles.I very rarely now activate the timer and suppose i got it as a bit of a gimmick .Although the car is armed i still dont like the idea of walking away from it while its still running,it does make for some strange looks from people though.

I was considering buying a gimmicky alarm, (like patrick grays) which has the turbo timer built in.

i'm with the drive off boost for the last bit of the journey brigade, think about it and you know it make sense.

1. As said is it even possible to boost right up to your drive / garage / any parking space?

2. Will the car heatsoak if you rag it then park and let it idle, yes infact if you have any defect in your cooling system this is probably when you'll find out, just like when theres a traffic jam on the motorway notice all of a sudden the people with open bonnets on the hard shoulder. WOT + stop & idle = bad

3. Driving off boost for a few minutes allows the car to cool using the radiator in the way it was designed i.e. with air flow.

4. You'll still have approx £70 in your pocket to spend on something more useful i.e. set of poly bushes, boost gauge, new HT leads, new dizzy cap and arm

my turbo translated MR2 Toyota manual recomends letting the car stand for 30 secs at the most before switch off if it's been driven on boost a lot.

my is on my alarm key fob and i tend to let it idle for a bit after a long blast then shut it off myself rather than waiting for the alarms rather long 3mins!

letting your car idle to long makes the engine get carbon buildup as well!

I tend to allow my own car 3 mins afetr a good run before shutting down. As for carbon build up, you are right of course. But if you think about the amount of times you sit in traffic for that kind of time, it makes little odds. Personally i'd rather know for sure that my turbo is nice and cool

I've had plenty of different turbocharged cars [Metro, Rover Coupe, Supra and use my dads GT4), not one of them need a turbo timer. Drive sensibly for the last couple of miles and you don't need one.

Waste of money. Spend it on something useful and less illegal.

If you're the kind of person who drives on boost right up to your house, then you're a prat anyway

The Clifford alarm on mine has a TT built in, but I never use it. I do as Alan said, just coast home quietly the last mile or so.

I have an `Apexi` turbo timer.
Fisrt of all i like em, its an extra gadget, and blokes love gadgets!
The Apexi works off the o2 sensor to calculate the time needed to cool the turbo, and i would say thats one of the most accurate to tell how hot the turbo is.

Also most timers have other cool features, ie fuel/air ratio, and volt metre.

I have a pretty expensive turbo, and so want look after it as best i can, so bought a timer.

I also find it interesting to see how hot (supposedly) the turbo is after booting it!

Just my opion.

I'd feel a lot happier in the knowledge that the guy cared enough to spend that £70 to look after the turbo!

Turbo timers are just marketing hype and are basically a product that you don't need. If i bought a car from someone and they told me that they had had a turbo timer installed i would just regard them as a gadget nut nothing more.

If they told me they bought it to look after the well being of the turbo it would probably put me off tbh.
