Winding in rear brakes

Hey,

So today I tried winding in my rear brakes using a G-clamp. I started with the passenger side, and they wound in quite easily after a bit of faffing with the clamp.

Then I tried the drivers side rear brakes, but they wouldnt budge at all. I had a really hard time getting the caliper back over the disk and pads but eventually got there (after not being able to wind it back at all). Went for a quick drive and now the drivers side rear wheel feels hot, making me think the brake is binding.

Does anyone have any tips regarding winding the brakes in? I had removed the fluid cap, and handbrake was off. My car is a 1991 MR2 Mk2 rev 1 uk NA.

Any help is much appreciated, as I have my first track day in a weeks time!!

you can buy a tool to help you...but I just use the ends of some long nosed pliers and a spanner/bar

I did use an adjustable spanner with an allen key through it for leverage, but wasnt sure if they "wound" in or just pressed in?

If I was to "wind" the brake back rather than simply force it back with a clamp, could that do the job?

check me... old skool....

release da pressure....wind it up...
...or in anyways, you don't need to push it in , just wind the piston round....don't forget to pump the brakes on completion.

Don't try to press them in....they won't !!!
Sounds like the piston is siezed up and needs to be freed off. The tool mentioned above will give you a much better chance of starting the piston to move, otherwise, go for the long nose pliers clamped with mole grips for leverage....

This is why you need to wind them in. Without that design the handbrake would not work.

Can't understand how you managed to use a g clamp on the other rear caliper?
