Whats the score with insuring it correctly then?

As you can't have later plates on a old car and this is surely going to cause issues?

The law is strange on imports as it goes by when the car was first registered in this country not when it was first manufactured.

Speak to GazRev1tubby about as he has had his rev 1 which was imported around 98 on an N plate for a while now and he's had no hassle. 8)

Yep, my Rev1 turbo was a 'H' reg when I bought it. I was after a personalised plate and wasn't sure what the law/s were with imported vehicles.

Called up the DVLA, and they said that because my car was first registered in the UK in '98, I could have up to a '98 registration ;)

Bought my number plate and went to the local DVLA office to get it all swapped over - no hassles at all :thumleft:

So I have an 'N' reg rev1 \:D/

My Rev 2 has a 53 plate on it.....!

It's a '93 car imported in 2003 and immediately on to a private plate. When I bought it and they switched to a standard plate that's what the DVLA gave me.

Never had any issues but it does confuse people.

Basically they don't know their ar$e from their elbows.

They are supposed to register them when first manufactured, not first imported! But it is also possible the importer put that date on the paperwork wrong and that's why the plate got allocated.

So do i lol. When my late 92 MR2 was being imported years ago i was even told what the plate was going to be (a K registration), the garage got the plates made then the nugget they got at the local DVLA office later on their return that afternoon had written it down as manufactured 01/01/92 in error and i was give a J plate. A little annoying at the time lol.

It SHOULD be done by the date of the cars birth.

I tried to find out the import side of things as I wanted the old Saxo plate on the MR2 but no one could ever give me a correct answer as I my S98 MRM and as it was imported in 1999 but built in 1989 not even DVLA would give me the info i needed so I sold my plate on :(

An older 2 with a newer than its age plate looks really odd! Surely some dumb people have been caught out by this before?

I've seen a V Reg Azure Rev4 a few times in Worthing, seemed a bit odd, perhaps its an import although 'looks' UK spec to me.
