Rev4 V6 - NOW BREAKING

Post by jasongtr »

been pondering a while as to whether to write this up - some people might be interested, others may not. anyway...

I bought (off imoc forum) in April 2010 a rev1 nautical blue Mr2 V6 with a camry 3vz-fe engine. It was in very good condition and had been very well looked after by the previous owner, and was the previous owner that had carried out the conversion (a massive thread is available on twobrutal).

i had plans to improve the car further, and to cut a long story short didnt fully go through with them. I have always liked white tintop MR2's so when a rev4 one came up cheap i thought this was my opportunity to have myself one, and decided to buy it with a view to reshelling my V6 stuff into it.

The paintwork on the white one was as flat as they come, but other than the usual rust along the bottom of the drivers door was in very good shape really.

first thing to swap over the privte plate whilst the white one still had MOT

So out with the old engine, modified the coolant pipes and re-routed the throttle cable, cleaned up the bare engine bay and readied it for the new V6 engine. The virtually brand new radiator was also swapped over from the old car as the one in the newer one had seen better days.

I changed the fuel tank over from the blue one as it had a walbro pump fitted, not needed for a std V6 but things might change in the future :-k

It had had a smack in the rear bumper so i sourced one of those, changed over my already quad modded import lights, and bought a set of tango JDM front/side lights.

The suspension was changed over along with the braided brake lines, the suspension consists of rebuildable struts with KYB inserts and eibach springs.

My enkei 16's went on and she's starting to look the picture.

The clifford alarm was changed over from the blue on to this newer white one.

Whilst the engine still needs to have the wiring completed, i didnt fit a new clutch when the engine was out and a brand new fidanza flywheel

I had an urge even though the car wasnt even ready for the road to get it roadworthy and sell it on to fund a new car, but i got to work on bringing the life back into the paintwork (well some of it so far) and well couldnt really sell it (i do this alot btw #-o )

anyway a few days ago i bought a TRD supercharger for it with a 6psi pulley, good for 270-275bhp  , not massive power compare to some of the turbo boys but with the torque that goes with it and the lightened flywheel and no lag it will be a reasonably quick car.

The stock ecu and injectors i have been told are on the limit at 6psi, so the next stage (a while off yet) will be sufficient cooling to allow for more boost, at least a piggy back ecu (poss stand alone) and bigger injectors - glad i swapped over the fuel tanks now with the walbro (i knew it would come in handy)

with the exception of some side vents with the centre bar removed the bodywork will be standard (i might keep the carbon wrapped centre panel or go back to white)

so the plan is to have it on the road by the summer, there's still alot to do

Ah so that was the reason for the questions regarding the LC1 wideband. :D

Should give you a nice boost in performance not to mention a nice supercharger whine! 270Hp with torque all over the place is not to be sniffed at.

How's the wiring coming along? Are you converting the mechanical speed to electronic or fitting the rev1 stuff to the rev4?

i know mate but any pics i have are not really worth putting up yet,

and yes thats the reason for the wideband afr q's

im going to use the electric drive, i have got one in the gearbox now and the camry engine loom had the plug there already, so its connected at the gearbox end - no idea if it will be that simple - very much doubt it but ill get the engine working beofre i worry about silly pointless things like a speedo

and yes lots of torque and that whine behind me.....

oh ok. i think you can get others to fit but this will look great and has TRD on it which is a good thing for an MR2 i think anyway.

That's a shame. FWIW I don't think they clear the chargecooler either otherwise I'd have it :(

small (and boring update)

i finally took my doors off my old rev1 (lightweight and totally rust free) in to be resprayed, the first place i went to only used water based paint so they would need lacquer - as the white mr2's are not lacquered i found somewhere that does it to match.

I ordered my caliper paint so they will be orange \:D/

And my dash retrim wont be far away
