[Mk2] [Turbo] ARP HEAD SET NUT AND STUD

Post by Mike N »

I have just aquired an ARP "nut and stud" set for my Rev1 tubby Cyl head. Does anyone have the torque settings for these as the original packaging was distroyed. In fact the build up stage settings would be usefull too.

Many Thanks

Straight 60ft/lb

Use the assy lube liberally.

I usually go for 40 then 60 just to ensure an even clamp!

I did 40, then 60, then wait half hour, back each off and then retorque to 60 (following the same sequence) and repeated about 5 times (I had loads of other things to do so could wait the 2.5 hours). Peter @ Sbits recommended this schedule as it stretches the bolts and means you don't need to retorque after 1500 miles.

just have this niggling thought that if I rip out the wiring, then the car will never get out of the garage again.

Screw in studs till they bottom out, do up hand tight.

Fit each nut and your supposed to screw them on then take them back off and back on again FOUR soddin times! -its to mate the threads together. -make sure moly lube is on there or 30wt oil.

Torque to 60 ft/lb

1000miles later, bottom out studs then re-torque to 60ft/lb

Shamed - these are designed NOT to stretch! its the main point of them over stretch bolts. The reason for the re-torque is because on first torque they will not lock into there seated position due to there lack of streching and low torque value, they will therefore slowly loosen off. Stretch bolts get torqued down a lot tighter so they dont loosen off.
