Help with insurance please

I’ve posted about this before, very good response from you all,

But this time it’s really hit me!
Current car is rev 2 MR2 1992 no mods good alarm ECT.
I had to claims last year cry 
Jan UN insurueded driver in a 4x4 reversed into me. Next I had a Celica GT R stolen aggravated twoc.
Direct line have quoted £1080 and others up too 2k. I have 7 years NCPD my Mr2 is a nice car but in reality its worth 1500 at the most. Where can I get sensible quote.

I had policy of £525 ill the proof of no claims was sent, they the above, they wanted 900 quid more. Don’t get me wrong I understand how insurance sort of works, but what is the point in being fully comp if im going to get shafted later

Hi Spoofer,

Your best bet would be trying to get a limited mileage policy, if you can. I am with RH Insurance in Brentwood (need to google the number) they are reasonable but insist on Cat 2 Thatcham immobiliser. Worth a go, good luck with it.

I spent ages trying to get a sensible quote for mine, ended up with a broker, BeWiser and they got me a really decent deal with Aviva on a car club owners policy, google BeWiser and give them a call, hope that helps...

Ive was with direct line for 5 years with 8yrs no claims discount....

My latest quote came through and it had doubled! Understandably i asked them why. They said that due to the 2 icy spells we had, insurance had gone up by 35-40%

Subsequently i told them to cancel my policy and i am now with sky insurance. My car is also a 92 turbo, with declared modifications, and im paying around the £700.

As for help....everyone will say the same, but ring around and go online. when they ask how much your last quote was, pitch i a few quid lower

Good luck

go compare go compare.....

No I'm kidding! Had my renewal on the other car this month and while they came up with about £50 more than I wanted, I went back with SKY again. To be fair of about 12 other places, one quoted a fiver more and the other 10/11 wanted close-on double what I would be paying now. I wanted to change but for the sake of a fiver I stuck with the devil I knew.

Car inurance is so grey and fickled it's unreal. It's the only thing which is making me think I'd be just as well smashing a car rather than selling these days. No point in having it unless you have to claim for it at some point!!!!!!

(I know that's not right but plenty of people I know manage cheaper insurance with worse records somehow so that's the way I feel these days, it's cheaper to smash and claim then change insurers than it is to stay loyal with the same outfit and be a safe bet)

Great for having your car legally insured, not so great if you have a claim..
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.
