Wind noise from shoulder area, a possible cure?

Post by ryan »

I have noticed a lot of wind noise from my lower driver side window area. Its the bottom corner where your alarm warning sticker would be.

I decided to take the outer top of door/bottom of window outer black strip off and noticed that the 2 brushes that force the window inwards had rusted off (theyre riveted to the inside of the strip).

I found them in the bottom or the door, damp and dirty.
The best way of sorting this problem is to buy new seals (with the brushes attached) however these were over £80 each many years ago when I priced them up!

The brushes are basically material looped around a metal strip with a hole in each side, where its riveted to the strip, thus forcing the window glass base againts the car when the window is up.
I carefully pushed a small thin screwdriver through the loop, where the rusted metal strip runs and then threaded some electrical wire through the material loop, then pushed it through the rivet holeds in the plastic strip, tying a tight knot at the rear.

I then super glued the brush in place for extra strength. Another way of doing this would be with a thin cable tie.
I have yet to re fit the strip, but will report back to see if its made a difference...
I know it appears a bit of a bodge, but I begrudge spending £200 on 2 new strips #-o

glad to hear it. turns out i've got a fair bit of play in the window when the door's open so i reckon i'll need to sort the window runners themselves before trying this

Is the play in/out or up/down?

It was in/out and the window didn't seat properly on the seal up the b-pillar. took the door card off today and adjusted it all up and found that my bushes were still in place, unlike yours, but they had been slackened off so they didn't touch the glass anymore. i adjusted them to put a bit of pressure on the glass, not taken the car out for a drive yet but hopefully it'll be a lot better now!
