V6 MR2

Post by mistertubby2 »

Hi folks,
I would like to know what this car is worth, please. Your knowledge would be appreciated. It is a 1992 import, no tax or M.O.T., see failure sheet below. The car has a few scratches and dings; front suspension tie bar missing; battery runs down after a couple of days, so something is draining current; the engine sounds o.k. but it pushes some of its water into the overflow bottle after 10 minutes or so of ticking over, but the gauge seems not to go too far above halfway.

Reason(s) for refusal to issue Certificate
Rear fog lamp tell tale not working (1.1.6e)
Offside Rear fog lamp not in good working order (not working) (1.1.6b)
Offside Front Headlamp insecure (1.2.4b)
Offside Front Headlamp aim too low and too far to the left. (1.6)
Nearside sill Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded (5.1.B.6)
Offside sill Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded (5.1.B.6)
Nearside Registration plate lamp not working (1.1.5c)
Nearside Rear sill Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively
corroded (2.4.A.2)
Offside Rear sill Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively
corroded (2.4.A.2)
Nearside Rear Suspension arm locating pin retaining device missing (2.4.G.4b)
Nearside Steering rack gaiter split (2.2.D.1d)
Offside Steering rack gaiter split (2.2.D.1d)
Offside Rear Tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm (4.1.D.1)
Rear Rear brake application uneven (3.7.A.5c)
Nearside Rear parking brake recording little or no effort (3.7.A.7a)
Parking brake efficiency below requirements (3.7.A.9/10)
Front brakes imbalanced (3.7.A.2e)
Advisory Notice issued
Nearside Rear Shock absorber has a light misting of oil (2.7.3)
Off side rear brake cal fixing bolts incorrect
Your help would be appreciated. Thanks

YAWN !

Is it your car or a car your going to buy?

Have you got any pics of the body work, engine, interior?

Whats the mileage of the car and engine, and who did the swop?

Is it a 3vz or 1mz v6?

Any pics of the corrosion?

Have you looked at other MR2 v6's for sale or done any research yourself?

Not far off, all that corrosion would be costly to repair indeed.

Sorry, can't tell from your post but are you looking to buy or sell this car? If you are buying...walk away now theres a lot better out there! If you are selling unfortunately I can not see you getting any more than £500 - £750. I can't see many people wanting to take on such a big job.

If you have a look through some of the old posts, there's been some V6's sold for only £2,000 to £2,500. Might as well get a good one in the first place!

Wow, I thought mine had issues!! :o

Seriously, to get any value back aren't you going to have to break it?

Just to be mercenary for a second, what's your exhaust like?

Sounds like an MR2 that's lead a very hard life and probably had too much money spent on mods and not enough spent on care [-X

I doub't very much it's even sell-able in all honesty. If you've got a good interior, solid body parts and some working mechanicals/peripherals you could make some money out of breaking it.

Henry, you may as well finalize this thread as its not for sale and I think it wont help you in your current situation.

Best of luck.
