Thanks K. :)

You're right Mike, time will tell.

Marf,

as you may have seen, I've just come out of the tail end of just such a situation. These cars are considered future classics by some insurers now and will endevour to keep them on the road. In my case I got a 'cash-in-lieu' settlement meaning that I got a full payout based on the value of the pre-accident car (which we agreed with no dispute!) minus 17% for the insurance company which would have been their cut from salvage. The car was NOT declared a write off and it's then up to me to repair it.

As it turns out the chassis was bent all teh same and I ended up buying another car to move a lot of my gear over too.

If I can answer any questions mate, just PM me.

Otherwise it good that you are ok but i completely understand that right now you probabaly dont even care about that as much as you do the damage to your car, just as I felt. I know it's heart-wrenching but unfortuantely there's nothign you can do until you fond out what going on with the insurance, nless of course you decide not to declare anything and just repair it. You can repair anything if you have enought money but you'll know when it time to face facts. Hopefully it can be saved.

best regards,

Bobby

Yeah I remember your thread, I'd be more than happy with that as an outcome, I've dropped you a PM :)

Yeah I did feel like that straight after, but having seen a good mate of mine get really badly hurt in an accident recently I think I moved past it pretty quickly. It could have been much much worse.

Uck. You're still in one piece and that's the main thing. Sods law this would happen just after getting it back from the garage :(

OK, I've just been out to survey the damage in the cold light of day.

Having taken the wheel off I cant see why the wheel is cambered out so much, the mounting points for the lower arm and tie rods are intact. The only thing I can think of is the crash bolts on the shock have shifted.

The wheel itself is screwed. The lip is bent as is the centre. They are only two piece so even if the centre was straight, the wheel would be scrap.

The lower chassis rail where the aircon rad bolts to has seperated from the chassis and shifted towards the drivers side.

The drivers side headlight was only contacting the bonnet edge as the cover had moved, but the light itself is loose and I can pull it half way up by hand.

The passenger side headlight has shifted forwards a little.

Ah. Not good.

Sorry to see its turned out this way. It seems all the 2s of late are getitn ghit in just such a way as to finish them off. Dammit. the very same shell I'm now stripping because one Ford Focus hit it lost it on ice years ago adn wiped out a Rav 4, a mk4 Golf and the BMW 7 series. Wrote them all off with the same front nearside corner adn wass still repairable!!!! Go figure??

If you took cash in lieu of repair bet you could find the parts yourself and get a bodyshop to do the work in budget. It's 60% of the value, I did the same

They wanted to write it off at first, suppose it depends how much you want to keep it O:)
