Lets not get out of hand. Theres always going to be the for and against arguements over the Vs section and bovs on rev 1/2's and whether to get a MK1 or MK2! The point of this post was someone taking some responsibilty and warning fellow imocers not to behave in a dangerous manner on the road. He is right. Well done Rory.

My views are similar to most. Dont do it in traffic, around town, on country lanes, at all really. I admit to having the odd blast. I have only ever "raced" really late at night when there is no one on the road and only ever on big Dual carriage ways. If I ever came across another car then the "race" stops as it does if we come to a built up area etc.

Now when I say race I mean a blast in a straight line more or less. None of this weaving in and out crap or round roundabouts etc. I simply respect my car too much to behave like that. You know what happens when you dont respect an MR2! I dont know about anyone else but I dont really wanna lose my MR2 or fork out for even more insurance after causing an accident. I have had the luck of doing responce driving courses so I think differently when driving but still its no reason to behave like that.

You can't really tell if diesels been dumped on the road or even now with cheapo councils doing lame repairs to roads, one part of the road may be good the over part that the other side of the car is on may be really poor.

Whilst on this subject, Magazines like JP and Banzai should take more responsibilty also. The amount of times I've read some one mapping their highly modded jap car on a public road at night just disgusts me. Imagine the speeds etc they do!!!! The other day I came across a RX-7 being mapped on a bloody high street more or less!!! I had a quick chat and he said it was being mapped for town driving then they are gonna open it up at WOT later on :? Cheek!!

Bottom line is be careful and mindfull of others.

P.S. keep it civil.

i have made a few posts on the vs section (up 2 and including the old imoc website).
and all have involved a motorway in a straight line.
but in the real world, i have only ever opened her up on a dual carriageway or motorway. and playing with the few odd cars that are up my ass or are trying to annoy me, mainly bmw's, lol (only if we were the only ones on the road). so this is pretty rare.
but for hevens sake, anyone with a car classed as a "performance or sports car", has only bought the car for one reason!!
if everyone wants to drive like a granny in a sports car, why bother getting the car in the first place!! before anyone starts, im not saying to break the speed limit if you got a fast car!!

i do not "race", and nor do most people on this site or on the Vs section, race!
and if people to decide to weave in and out of cars, overtaking in built up areas, then they do deserve a telling off!!

but for people like me who love there cars, NO ONE has the right to tell me how to drive.

How many times is this going to be an issue.

At the end of the day a little section on a club forum is not going to stop people racing and to be honest I dont think it encourages people to race either.

I've read all the Vs. in the section and to be honest I can take it or leave it. It doesn't make me want to go out and instantly race someone.
In a way by reading a Vs. post you can gauge how much of a nob head that person is.

I say either remove it or leave it alone, don't get involved in discussions about it over and over again.

If admin get rid of it, 'vs' type threads will just pop up in 'off topic' anywho.

To the bin ! Seems to create more friction then what its worth.
Supposed to be a forum for enthusiast, it'll turn personal then people will circle off into their own groups ... which is not really what all this is about.

I've lost the front end of a 911 at 20MPH on a bend I could of easily done at 50 due to deisel spillage, It was a nice wide country lane that doesnt normally have lorries on.

I know a guy who is now known as 'teapot' after driving too fast around a bend to find a tractor / trailer across the road, his car was turned convertible by the trailer as was the top two inches of his head he is very lucky to be alive all-be-it with an unfortunate nickname.

I'm looking in the view that there are some sensitive people on here too and not just bullys. There can be a perfectly innocent member that will post into the V's section, then get hammered by hate mail for it .. then you never see them post ever again = bullied off the forum.

Do we want this to happen ? Do we want people to have view that a member based forum that we all contribute to is regarded as full of tossers ??

IMO, there are always going to be bragging posts of one sort or another so it makes sense to keep them somewhere sensible. Personally I'd change the description though, "All at completely legal road speeds and all within the motoring laws of the land....of course." sound a bit too jokey. A sticky announcement thing along the same lines probably wouldn't hurt either.

If you want to discourage street racers (which seems to be what this thread started as) then a better way is to highlight legal ways of competing - post stories from trackdays, 1/4 mile times, whatever - and make people aware of the consequenses, like the original link does.

Rory wrote:Sometimes reading people posts in the vs section really shocks me. Im not an old fart but I think 160mph on any public road can never be safe. If you want to prove your car/driving then you need to go to a track. Check out this link below and think about it next time you try racing some boy racer in his nova. What have you got to prove?

Rory

This is where this thread all started.
Thanks Rory for for a good post and making people think. (he's not calling for banning of sections or heads on blocks etc.)

If the admins do anything with this thread they should add a poll....

1. I've read the stuff on the link - It made me think / I'm gonna be more responsible
2. I've read the stuff on the link and dont care - it will never happen to me
3. I've not read it and dont care.

If one person votes 1. then something good has come from this.

I vote 1.

Definately here what you're saying there JJ.

But the beauty and the ball ache of the site is you can say what you like.

If someone posts a vs post and it is in complete disregard to safety etc, then yes someone should say, hold on buddy......but like you say, when someone posts a innocent vs post, and then gets laid into by someone with the ar$e, then it doesn't do any good to our reputation.

It works both ways.

Maybe there should be a sticky at the top of the vs section, warning that ridiculous posts of 'unsafe practices' will be moved off the site. Get people to tone it down a touch.

Spot on Luke. If someone is bragging about dangerous driving in the VS section they may be encouraged by people replying "wow". If the reply was "dont be an idiot" then perhaps they would think twice about doing it again. You never know. One person on this forum may actually listen to what we have been saying and it could save their life.

Thats a good idea CJB. It would be interesting to know if anyone has had their eyes opened to the danger of street racing. How can we get a poll started?

Rory, just start a new topic, and add the poll to that. Include a link to this topic so people can read up on it.

There isn't a person on here that hasn't done some form of road racing. When I was younger, I considered it the only way to drive!

However, the years go by, and my ego isn't fragile enough to feel the need to prove my own driving skills or the power of my car against another vehicle.

What IMOC-UK has to understand is that as the MR2 has got older, the car has become more affordable and thus available to younger people, so the 'racing' aspect is always going to be there. The 'Vs' section has made me laugh at times, and most of the time the topics drift off somewhat (in the same way that the MkIV topic went! ).

Delete the section if need be, or put a far sterner warning on the section heading.
Mk2 NA Rev1 -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev2 -*- Mk1 NA -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev 3 = all gone!
