[Mk2] [NA] Replacement engine re-wire confusion

Post by ChefAngus »

Hello all...i have recently switched my engine for a likewise secondhand 3s ge!
My problem is with re-attaching the loom! My problems are as follows:

Do the both the starter motor and alt both have two big wires bolted on to the terminal?

There is a black wire which is attached to the gearbox via a bolt. Where should the other end of this attach?

There is a another wire which looks like the one I just mentioned but grey, which is coming from under the fuse/relay box. cant see where this should attach.

There is a snap on 2 pin grey plug which comes from loom under throttle intake/water pipe connections and I cant find a home for this.
Pls try help, I know it is hard without seeing it.

the first one sounds like the main earth lead that goes from the gearbox to the gearbox mount n/s on the top ,pictures of these would help mate :thumleft:

Wire on the gear box sounds like an earth strap. That attaches to the body, should already be a hole close to the length of wire. :thumleft:

Am getting there...
I still cant work out where the small grey 2 pin connector which comes from under the fuse box goes(looks a bit like an earth lead but dont think it is, maybe it attaches to the air intake box somewhere).
Also need to know if both the alt and starter have 2 big screw on wires attached to there single terminal?

Cant post pics, sorry am using a mobi to post this at mo!

Thanks for your help ppl :-k

It cant be for air box as it is plugged in:-(
Seems there is another one on other side... Maybe they are for some kind of upgrade or something?
By the way what does afm stand for? Pls excuse my ignorance!
