If you have lost the keys then getting in is the least of your problems. It takes all of 20 seconds to get into a locked mk1 but i'm not about to share it on an internet forum.

am sure you will figure out how to get in the mk1, but if you open up the inside of the door, behind the panel and take out your driver side lock, it will have the numbers on it and you can get the keys cut. I went to toyota for it for my friend but they said a locksmith will do it for cheaper and you get spares etc :D

Whereabouts on the lock should these numbers be out of interest? I've got locks from various cars in the garage and whilst having a quick look over them the other week the only obvious number I noticed was a 4 digit one on the lever arm. Only thing is that number is meaningless as all my locks have the same number on them

if I remember correctly its along the side of the lock and should be unique to each mk1, so was good enough for them to cut a key and it worked first time

Does the car have an alarm or immobiliser on it? I've had to bypass the one on my car after it had been sat without power for 2+ years. :-k

I simply pulled the alarm relay and bridged the connections in the relay plugs with some heavy duty wire. Finding the alarm/immob's the fun bit.

It's a temporary thing as I'll be replacing the alarm but it had to be done so I could test the electrics.

There was no factory alarm/immobiliser fitted to the mk1. Anything you have got will be aftermarket or at best dealer fit so no-one here can tell you where it is or how to disable it.
