I'm going to have the datalogs looked at this week for the dyno runs so that will say for certain wether it was or wasn't fluctuating

Id be surprised if there was anything wrong with the equipment as not everyone's boost was shown to be wandering- possibly a leaking connection when they hooked your car up to the boost monitor or something? I'll be interested to hear what your datta logger says.

Where have you set your red-line at the moment? Your horse power figure is impressive!

got home to find one of my chargecooler pipes had split also

Dave hope you get that sorted soon :thumleft:

don't think there was anything wrong with their equipment, my boost didn't fluctuate at all.

enquiring about new engine builds now
already getting itchy feet for power after seeing yours and ants run lol

Can you suggest anything ash as far as builds go, from the basic stuff like pistons etc to the more tech stuff like headwork and cams :-k
Also having trouble finding an approx cost of a forged build :-k :thumleft:

how was the drive home by the way??? after ryan got his hands on it, was it a nicer drive, more resposive etc etc

Ryans cleaning up on my map has had a noticable effect on the mid range, and it feels crisper, more solid throughout the rev range if that makes sense! A joy to drive on and off boost- Ryan's time is well worth it, my fueling map is smooth now :thumleft: :thumleft:

I wanted something a bit special for this car so I took the opportunity to over spec the build to safe guard future plans ;)

Mines running a sleeved block, Wiseco pistons, Eagle rods and a lightened crank. I also had the head port & polished with oversize valves, together with the Rogue special cams.

We used the Wiseco pistons as they are nice and light, without being the most expensive. Have a chat with Tony at Rogue if you can- he really knows his engines...I'm well impressed with what they did to mine

Next time I want to do the work myself now that I'm getting to know these cars a bit better and starting to get a bit more confident with forced induction :eye:

yeah ryan certainly knows his stuff

Ideally i want 400/450fwhp but as you say i want it built for say 500 mainly as i want it to be reliable.
I have thought about giving a rebuild a bash but i really do not have the knoweldge about the inside of an engine lol, its tolerances and tools which wory me, hence why i would like someone like rogue of century to build me a solid engine.
Im not so sure about wether i should spend another 4000 on an engine build (assuming this is approx cost) or wether i should buy one already to spec then visually change the car to my taste, but again i wouldnt know where to begin to look as far as importers go ](*,)

I think having the power the power that both you and ant run is defnately more than enough to keep me on my toes and both your cars are my main drive into the next stage, i dont expect it to be cheap or easy, but im sure ill get there and have great fun using it. :thumleft:
better start my reading i guess :thumleft:

On the one hand I guess buying a built engine may be cheaper, but the main advantage of building one is that you know exactly what spec everything is, and you'll be that much more confident later on when upping the power!

I'd be a nit nervous about importing a forged build I wanted to rely on simply cos you cant inspect it yourself first- you typically have to rely on Japan side agents to inspect on your behalf. That was my safeguard when I bought my car- I budgeted to have a full build done up front.

Give Matt at Rogue a call- he'll chat you through the options, then if you can go and chat to Tony as well :thumleft:

Next time we're out your welcome to come for a drive and see what she's like on boost :thumleft:

yeah sounds like good advice,
ill pm rogue, i just really want an idea on financing everything then this will decide wether i run with it or not.
I suppose if i even start with just running a forged block, but retaining the stock head, i could at a lter date when i have the finances modify the head according to my goals etc, as long as the main block is built to hold good power, i think its pretty simple from there on.
Ill give them a shout and no doubt keep you updated :thumleft:

dave

oh and would like a ride in your car bud, im sure it will only spur me on more

together with the Rogue special cams

Cat Cams?

Dave I would recommend spending time reading up on specs. Everyone has a different approach and result can vary from one build to the next. Buy building it yourself you will save packets in labour costs, and you'll also gain a welth of knowledge that can be put to use for a long time. You'll obviously need to shell out a bit on tools, but if you're a bit handy then you'll always be needing them.

I did my build myself. No previous knowledge of the inside of an engine other than what I saw at the scrappys. I too was a bit concerned about tolerences etc, but if it aint right, get it fixed. Its all actually dead easy to do. Just take your time and be confident about each step. I had many nightmares during my build, but its all learning and thankfully nothing that has (to date) caused me a problem. It also gives you something to be very proud of. The very first engine I built pushed out over 450bhp yesterday, with ease. And it can do it all day long. That definately gives you something to smile about.

I will say though that mine is an extreme case. Its grossly over speced for that power, and there are more custom things on there than you can shake a stick at. But that was one goal of my project. To do a basic run of the mill forged, well powered engine would be a drop in the well in comparison.

Read up and make lists. Get prices and ask questions. There are many people out there who are more than happy to talk things through and help. Ask Liam, I think I chewed his and his Dads ears off for a goot half hour about my build

Sound advice mate- take your time, research everything, and then decide.

That definately gives you something to smile about.

Deservedly so- your results speak for themselves :thumleft:

Ey' up

Its Dan with the blue 350z. Cheers for letting me jump in on the MR2 day, was a damn good day. i thought I might have been a touch embarassed having a 3.5ltr engine and making the least amount but the little zed held her own, putting out 283.8bhp with 253lbs for basically a stock car.

A well organised day with a good group of people.

Cheers all

Great day everyone! glad the weather held up too. cheers for sorting it all dave!

Didnt run mine on the day as i was also there the day before as ryan had to fit and map the new ecu. But i made 374.9fwbhp (318.5wheel) & 308lbft @ 1.08 bar!
Like ant, i built the engine myself and to know after 2 years of hard work, it all 'worked' and worked well! is such a great feeling! Roll on GT35r now!

To all those who had boost fluctuation problems - Before forking out on new solenoids & actuators etc, just check the BOV spring is tight enough!!
I had the same problem, mine was fluctuating up and down from 16.5 ~ 18psi i tightened the BOV spring and the problem was solved!

If this is the problem, i recommend you turn your boost down slightly to test as the boost will come in quicker as the bov is not bleeding it off -it caused mine to boost past 18psi and hit boost cut 1st time i tried!

Did anyone get any pics?! or clips?

scott - no probs mate! should have seen the look of worry your face when you pulled over tho! lol

As it happened you and Ant shot off and i just managed to catch up. I had a choice of either pulling over and having a look to see if i could fix the problem myself, or flash you both and pull you both over with me....2 very knowledgeable MR2 heads seemed like the right choice...

how much power did you make in the end? I missed your run.

Sorry mate missed your post! I got 258 with a decat and apexi induction. I don't count the exhaust as a performance mod as the legalis r is not very free flowing, and while I have a chargecooler installed I haven't turned the boost up as my turbo is on the way out (oil seals). However, TD06 on the way...

The car also needs the rear brake calipers replacing and the holes on the gearbox for the front torque mount need helicoiling as they're stripped (and as a result one of the engine mounts isn't attached to anything), not to mention I have a Fidanza flywheel knocking around that I should probably put on :thumleft:
