Rev 2 Modified Turbo Tin Top for Sale - NOW £1800!!!!

Post by SySanguinary »

The time has come for me to part company with my pride and joy. Sadly, it has to go as I'm supposed to be finishing my 1.5 project, but whilst the Tubby is around it isn't getting a look in.

I've owned the car for just over a year and it has to be one of the best mr2's I've had so far. It's a 1992 Rev 2 Tin Top J registered Turbo. It's the GTS model but is only missing the folding mirrors and the traction control from the top spec GT version.

It has abs, air con, climate control, part leather seats and steering front fog lights.

It always starts fine whether being used daily or once in a blue moon. It's always warmed up gently before boosting and never shut off before the turbo has had chance to cool. Oil is changed every 5000 km, the most recent change being 2000 km ago.

Currently the milage is showing just over 142000 km. I've put 20000 km on the car since I've had it. Mechanically the car is in excellent condition, it's recenty had new front droplinks and a cambelt. Whilst the belt was off the water pump was changed too.
It passed it's mot last September with no advisories or issues.

Compared to standard rev2's this is a quick car. The previous owner had it tickled by Trac Art. Outside the car is standard, I do have a pair of scoops for it but have never fitted them. These will be included in the sale.

It has a Blitz electronic boost controller running at a round about 1.1 bar. I was told I could run it up to 1.2 bar by the last owner but it's more than quick enough as it is. It is de-catted and has a Blitz air filter and Super Sound Blow Off Valve. The turbo pulls very strongly with no oil leaks or smoke.

I have P1 Racing alloys on it in very good condition with T1 R's all round.

Bodywork is good with no rust. There are a few minor scratches around but nothing that a good abrasive polish won't sort out. The only thing is a small amount of laquer has come away from the boot lid (around 5 cm2). It was like that when I got it but it hasn't bothered me enough to get it sorted.

I think that's about it. As said this is a very quick car, in good condition and well worth a look.

The car is based in Manchester, just of junction 23 of the M60, but can be taken to Wigan during the daytime.

As said I don't really want to sell the car but feel I must to progess with the 1.5 I need to re/build...

Hence looking for £2400. I may take offers but please, nothing too silly. :D
PM me. :thumleft:

No one interested? :D

Due to typical bad timing I'm going to have to let this go fairly soon now. My everyday car is somewhat dead so I need to raise the cash to replace it. I could use the Tubby for work each day but it would soon get wrecked/filthy inside and out!

So come on people, make me an offer and you never know..... :thumleft:

Having similar problem selling my rev 2 mate. As per off topic "buying 1st MR2" thread people keep telling every one to buy rev 3's as if there really is this magical difference between them.

A Rev3 for the money you and I are asking will be very average at best.

Good luck mate & free bump :thumleft:

Exactly Matt. People seem put off by the rev 2's. I've no idea why really. A well setup rev2 can match a rev3 no probs. When I bought mine I looked at a couple of rev3's but plumped for the 2 instead. The guy that had it before me did everything to it to make it a damn fast car.

I'm sure the first person to look at and drive the car will take it, it's just difficult getting that point accross without sounding too patronising!

Again, I'm sure that's the same with yours. Especially with the mods and that brilliant colour. 8)

My 1.5 is on the road now so the tubby isn't getting much of a look in... still drive it with a stupid smile on my face though.... :D

Rev 1/2's make more mid range torque ( pull harder than rev 3's ) due to their nice big port heads... their blocks are also stronger too !! :thumleft:

Hi Shadeh, I'm afraid not mate. Not really what I'm looking for even though they are cracking looking cars. Thanks for the interest though. :thumleft:

Lol, I think if I did that the car would sit a little low to the ground and handling would be rather compromised!

I know I could get more by breaking the car but I couldn't bear to do it, even changing the wheels. :thumleft:

Ok then, the car is now on pistonheads. It has to go fairly soon really as it is just going to be sat around not being used in the not to distant future.

The price on PH is £2200.

I'm willing to take £1800 though from an IMOC member. :thumleft:

Cheers

Well, after a no show over the weekend from someone who wanted the car lock stock, the Tubby is still around.

However, after this month it won't be. The tax runs out at the end of July and I'm simply not going to spend money on the car since it's advertised at such a low price!

At the end of the month I'm going to either: return the car to standard which will be a hell of a shame, then sell the car off and all the bits of it seperately.

Or: break the car completely. This really is a shame as it's a perfectly good Tubby. However it's taking up space on my drive and costing me to keep it insured.

Make no mistake, the car will be being broke at the end of the month and the parts offered on ebay. Ironically this will net much more than the poultry £1800 I still want for it.

So then, come on people, save a tubby!

(And grab a bargain of a nigh on 300bhp toy for next to nothing  )

Cheers

Sy.

Edit: since the first ad (many moons ago!) the car now has 149000 km on the clock and a brand new set of rear tyres having completed less than 500km. :thumleft:

Just picked up on this thread..
SySanguinary wrote:Or: break the car completely.

What??  I know this car really well and there's no way on earth it should be broken. It's a really really good car and really quick. :thumleft:

I'm simply amazed this car hasn't sold yet at this price :?

It has a Blitz dual solenoid boost controller, the turbo is a hybrid (not sure details though) and Tracart have also done other work on it but I think the extent of what they exactly did is unknown.

All I do know is that even at 1 bar (which is the only boost I've driven it at) it is quick indeed. At 1.2 bar I guess it must be near the 300hp mark.

I'm fairly certain that is anyone comes and has a test drive of this car they will be smitten and snap his hand off at only £1800

Someone really should get over to Manchester and get themselves a bargain. You won't be disappointed :thumleft:
