[Mk2] [Generic] Just fitted Lockwood Cream dials.

Post by Ken58 »

According to the instructions, you use a craft knife to cut in two the original black dial to remove it, so you don't have to remove the needles, there is a liitle grommet type ring to go under each needle to stop light getting through,
I spent half an hour trying to get that under the temp guage needle, it just kept sticking, I finaly did it, the needle was going up and down whilst in the process, and now the needle at rest is way down past the original place, it's actually on the black part..off the clock, it works ok though once the engine is warm it reads normal, anyone else had this happen?

I removed the needles for the rest of them...much easier, I had to adjust rev counter and speedo needle position, but that was no problem, I road tested it with a speed check before fully assembling the clocks.
Also, if you remove the needles, you can keep the original faces intact if you need to replace them. I wish I had done that at the start and would have the temp guage one still, instead of two halves.

had the same problems m8. when i fitted my lockwood dials i cut the old ones out, but eneded up removing all the needles and spent hours recaliberating them. massive pain in the ar$e. and really not worth it. i since decided i prefer stock clocks over any aftermarket ones....   if you ask me it really isnt worth the bother..plus my lockwoods look rubbish when there lit up at night lol

el glow dials from ebay £37 straight over the top very easy to install, no dodgy reading needles and look the dogs b0ll0cks at night just need a pritt stick to install job done. :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:
she's all comming together nicely now after a fair bit of cash spent, not bad for just an n/a now for some body kit i think.

Were they white dials with light blue illumination that you fitted mattymr2
? I fitted cream with amber illumination, I'm well pleased with the look of them during the day, but yeah, the night illumination leaves a bit to be desired, it's not too bad, numbers are all clear to see, but the light is a bit washy. I need to change all the switches to amber or red now to match lol.

Never seen them El Glow ones on ebay, I had a look but couldn't find them.

According to instructions you remove the old faces, the new ones are a replacement, also you fit new rest pegs to speedo and rev counter, just rev counter in my case. The new dials wouldn't fit right over old rest pegs I don't think.

I do wonder though what the illumination would be like leaving the original black faces in place.

You think thats bad! I can hardly see anything at night on mine. I have to use my snooper to see my speed.

I will pay good money if someone in essex can take out my shitty lockwood dials and fit them nice ones!

I've opened up a right can of worms here by the looks of it. lol

Actually in all honesty, I'm very happy with my dials, really! those photo's, particularly the night shot were taken with my phone and they don't really do the dials justice, they do in fact look much better in reallity.

The illumination is a bit better with the light backed of a bit from full, it gets rid of a bit of that slight glow from the center of the dials, the grommet things don't eliminate all of it.

I'm happy enough with them to want to change the rest of the dash lights to match. I need some spare switches etc now to experiment with.

Just a further note on this topic, I saw someone mention somewhere about changing the colour of the indicator arrows, but I can't find it now.

Has anyone any info on this please? Everything on mine is going to be red, these arrows are green.
