Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
I have a anodised fitting I need to put into my moroso oil pan but the threads are all messed up, theres a welding shop near me, will they be able to weld the fitting in?
I thought there was something about anodised aluminium and it couldnt be welded but i may be wrong!

yeh it can be buffed off using a flap disc prior to welding! just dont use a grinding or flap disc that has been used on steel as it contaminates the area to be welded and wont get a sound weld hope that helps mate

You need to look it up properly but annodizing can be removed with caustic soda/drain cleaner....or something like that - it is certainly DIYable and cheap to do.
it can be removed with a wire wheel, but it cannot of been used on anything but alloy or it will contaminate teh metal further and make the weld porous.
I took it to a fabrication shop today, they turned all the anodised stuff off on a lathe and welded it into the sump, did a really smart job
Thanks for the replies
