+ another for keeping it, i bought a 1973 mk 1 escort from a mate of mine as it was tax exempt and wanted a cheap car to get me to work as my fiesta rs turbo was getting ruined,

i paid

£300 for it i knew the numberplate was worth more than that so i knew i was onto a winner anyway car was also fitted with a 1750 burtons engine which was very quick

, the car sat outside his flat for a year and a half as he didnt have funds to put it on the road,

i took my jump start box, a gallon of petrol, and some wd40 with me to his flat popped off dizzy cap checked that gave a spray of wd40 done same with leads and took spark plugs out and gave them a clean,

popped some petrol down the carb and turned the ignition after a couple of turns it fired up bit of coughing and spluttering but when warm it was fine, was expecting the clutch to be seized but was fine also brakes were stuck but after driving backwards and forwards thay released, my mate then drove it to my house this was a saturday,

the following day i jacked up car and put it on axel stands and went from front to back checking all suspension and chassis rails etc, had some rusty brake pipes which i rubbed down and painted bit of surface rust on floor and bits nice splash of hamerite sorted that out, i gave the calipers some wd40 and got them working much better and noticed a few loose bolts on suspension and some missing split pins, a couple of tyres had rotted so got 2 part worns,

monday morning came and took car for mot after a very scary 35 mins guy said that the car is fine and passed and was suprised how clean it was underneath, i also told him how long it had sat and what i paid for it he said i had a result,

£55 i paid for mot and tyres insurance was

£130 on a classic policy i drove the car round my mates flat and showed him he was gutted, he

thought it was going to cost loads to put on the road bear in mind car was outside for the whole time not in a garage.

sorry for such long story but sometimes things are not as bad as thay seem, i bought a cheap nova for wife once engine was covered in oil, wife had a heart attack when she see

the engine, i bought it she said are you mad on way home i popped into garage and steam cleaned engine with a can of gunk and popped into cheap spares shop got a rocker cover gasket and put on, oil leak cured she had that car for 2 and half years it never broke down and always started first time even in winter and was very quick for a 1.2

go on give it a go dont break it for spares.
