[Mk2] [Generic] A £5 solution for your broken electric aerials!

Post by Dale_V »

My electric aerial has been broke for 3 years, not a problem for me as I usually just listen to CD's and so unplugged the aerial to stop the whining noise from the broken 'worm'. I bet you're now thinking, why not just pull the mast up then? well because it looks like a RC car imo

Anyway now the warm weathers coming, the car will be used and the girlfriend will probably moan there is no radio, so ive been searching for aerial options, the common ones would be replace the mast or replace the aerial, but thats usually £££ and I have better things to spend my cash on. So searching the internet I found a cheap £5 internal glass aerial: http://www.uniqueaudioandstyling.co.uk/ ... -201-p.asp

cant go wrong for £5 posted, but i thought it would look a bit ugly placed on the rear screen, so decided to mount it in the rear center panel

the aerial:

a nice place for the aerials body to sit

stuck to the body work, and then the panel will sit over! the wiring run to the right light cluser, through the grommet and hooked up to the existing aerial loom

works a treat! great reception, no nasty aerial hanging from your wing, 30mins to install and £5 delivered! 8)

Thats a really good idea, could totally do away with the old aerial and have it smoothed out flush to the rest of the body. May do that eventually!

exactly

The reception is great, I tested it out inside the garage and it locked onto the stations straight away, then took it out for a spin to see if there would be any engine/exhaust/movement interferance and there wasnt, still locked onto the signal :thumleft:

cant fault it at all!

It does need 12v, from the original aerials loom there is a red switched live wire, just splice it into that :)

so the 12v feed is easy enough then ,is it just a standard ariel conn that connects to the standard ariel in the car

You got it Jim, behind the carpet where the original aerial sits you will see the aerials loom, unclip the connection between the loom and the aerial housing and on the loom you will see about 5/6 wires, splice into the red wire

Same with the aerial jack, unplug the original aerials jack and simply connect the new aerials jack to it :thumleft: ill get pics on monday if i remember

Flipping heck, I've just fitted one of these to the base of the windscreen in my Caddy pickup. I paid £15 for it on the high street though  Mine works just as well as an external antenna.

I've bookmarked that site now for future reference!!

and their website ordering is terrible. Why ask for a billing and delivery address on the order form then ask for it again on the payment form ](*,) Ended up going ebay route so lets hope the cheapo one I have on order actually works lol

Still no delivery, or reply from my emails enquiries? I'll be starting a Paypal dispute tonight as this is taking the urine!
