worn shims? would sound something like tappets but the mr2 doesnt have tappets :D . shims are basicly spacers that sit ontop of the valves (hence why the noise is at the top of the engine) as the cam rotates and touches the valve caps (sat on top of the shims) they get worn slightly over time and t...
i have the same problem on my passenger tbar. Dunno how to solve it apart from turning the stereo up. I though the bass had rattled something loose, but obviously not.

to see if its slipping or needs adjusting drive the car at around 35mph in 5th gear and floor it. If the revs rise quicker than the speed then its slipping. If not then it just probably needs adjusting, which is easily done
