Re: Old School Wheels....

Would love to try and get a set of TSW evo's from the early 90's. Very flat 7 spoke design, think it'd suit the Mk1 nicely.

Re: utterly desperate now!!!

The Picture shows the ST185 disc fitted with an ST185 single pot caliper. Its a good upgrade as the parts all bolt on, requiring only the disc to be re-drilled. ST185 calipers come in two varients; The twin pot caliper uses the same size disc as the mk1b (256mm) and the single pot caliper uses the 2...

Re: Engine start-up commotion

what happens if you rev it whilst its not disengaging? I do it sometimes, as its bluddy annoying! yeah, decent weather does improve, ive noticed that You run the risk of spinning the starter faster than it's ever intended to spin. What happens next is that the armature of the starter overheats (as ...

Re: Engine start-up commotion

Clutch dust sticks to the starter, causing the pinion to stick out after the engine has started. The important thing is NOT to rev the engine whilst its stuck. The cure is simply(!) to remove the starter, extend the pinion out and give a good dousing with brake and clutch cleaner.

Re: New Flexi on Exhaust needed

Another vote for JP. The guys are simple the best when it comes to stainless.

There is another macclefield based stainless steel exhaust supplier, however, I'd STRONGLY recommend avoiding him like the plague.

Re: Anyone fitted tweeters in the A-Pillars?

I really need the speakers in the pillars for the stereo separation, having them next to each other and low down will kill the stereo image. Ideal location is in the A-pillar, about 6" up, aiming at the opposite headrest. Cheers, Jon Previous owner fitted some at the top of the A-pillar - Appa...

Re: Crunchy-grindy noise from rear wheel -eek!

Yep, thanks - this was the first thing i thought of hence: Stopped in at walkers exhausts just to make sure wheel wasn't falling off!, and jacked up rear near side wheel. They checked the torque settings on the nuts. But i'm tempted to take wheel off and reseat it again when i get home. Doh! Thats ...

Re: Crunchy-grindy noise from rear wheel -eek!

Can I state the obvious and say Check that the wheel is tight?

It may sound daft but my mate was convinced his Driveshaft was on its way out, or maybe his wheel bearing.

I went round, jacked the wheel up and 2 of the 4 wheel studs had sheared off.

Re: Anti roll bar drop links!!!!

Very definately an MOT failure. However, I remember using MK5 escort ones (I think) a couple of years ago - Same length, but the balljoints were both facing in the same direction. One pipewrench, and quick twist through 180 degrees et voila! Now thinking of getting a mate to knock up some with rosej...
