Anyone fitted tweeters in the A-Pillars?

Post by jrleech »

I'm going to fit some Focal K2 Power 100KP 4" Component speakers in the front, and am wondering where to mount the tweeters.

Anyone installed components in a Mk1?

Any neat and cunning places to mount the tweeter?

I was thinking of mounting them in the A pillar trims (after creating a moulded 'pod' to direct them correctly).

Cheers,
Jon

I really need the speakers in the pillars for the stereo separation, having them next to each other and low down will kill the stereo image. Ideal location is in the A-pillar, about 6" up, aiming at the opposite headrest.

I find that just gives me a sore ear. The rear speakers at the top give enough sound for me.

Previous owner fitted some at the top of the A-pillar - Appalling!

I was thinking of moving them to the Door mirror triangles. Bit more wiring work, but a neater install.

Yeah, I was thinking about the triangle, though there's not a lot of mass there. I know the tweeters aren't heavy, but maybe just a few inches up the trim from there would be more solid.

Up at the top wouldn't be nice, to near the driver. They should really be close to the 4" woofer, or at least the same distance from the tweeter and woofer to the driver. The general thinking is that the drivers tweeter should be just far enough up the A-pillar to have line of sight to the passengers head and visa versa. Then go up another inch for good measure.

Was going to mould a 'pod' into the A-pillar in the ideal location, bit of fibreglass resin MDF ring and lots of filler and sanding.

Cheers,
Jon
