Yes I replaced the nuts ... tapered as suggested .... don't remember how many turns to tighten .... problem is studs cannot be too long as wheel has a centre disc covering the nuts after the wheel is mounted.
As implied, yes I could understand if I used spacers but I haven't ! .... so unless Autostrada Modenas are somehow thicker than normal wheels. They are a well know deep dish wheel fitted to MR2s ... hmmmm
