Re: Mk1 engine knocking
its most likely to be a worn bottom or big end bearing which is pretty terminal im afraid...it costs to much to repair this versus fitting a new engine with a fresh lifespan ahead of it. . paul, aren't the big end bearings replaceable by 'just' dropping the sump and undoing the conrod(?) bolts........

Re: Buying a Mk1 for under £500
The one i got off ebay for £250, would have been fine for a track car... .....it had failed its MOT on rust.....drivers floor pan and anti roll bar mount area......a bit of an awkard shape plate would have been needed but not too bad and no need to be that tidy a repair...... Suspension needed sorti...

Re: MK1 oil puff on startup.
yeh, not overly worried..... Thing is I have a spare engine, that i know didn't do the same so i may clean up the head on that one a do a head swap at some stage. I rather do this than a full engine refurb and swap, but then also don't want to just do the head if i'd just be wasting my time in the l...

MK1 oil puff on startup.
Just after a point in the right, or possibly right direction. I get a puff of oil smoke on startup with my mk1 that seems to be worse the longer its left standing (after a couple of days the puff is significant / embarassing!) no oil consumption problems and absolutely no evidence of oil burning at ...

Re: new driver
Maybe..........but all cars used to be rwd.......were just conditioned now to fwd so people suddenly changing to rwd can now cause problems.. ....i reckon he could be fine by going straight to rwd, the mk1 is hardly massively powerful, and besides all youngsters will nearly always have a crash early...

TBH i won't be ebaying anything, i'm just trying to have a supply of backup bits for my car, but don't want to keep things that never

Mk1 breaking advise
I've extracted the engine and gearbox from my recently aquired mk1, stripped the interior and side skirts, fuel tank etc. I've kept some obvious bits (engine g/box rad etc), but i don't have a great deal of space and so i was wondering what is worth keeping and what isn't (mainly switch gear, and el...

Re: Engine out?
how did it go, any follow up to this? Are their any worthwhile shortcuts if i'm just stripping a scrap car for the engine/parts? with the engine dropped, how heavy is the back end? could 2/3 guys lift the rear over the engine? should i just angle grind off the back end (this destructive approach has...

Re: My first ride in a MK1 Supercharger!
Paul i've just been looking at your 1.5 write up and also read somewhere else that it would be approximately £3500 to roll in as a Mk1 and roll out as a completed Mk 1.5. That seems good value to me for mk1 (ish!) handling with Supra TT acceleration), but is that estimate inclusive of all the fuel p...
