Anniversary Pressie (skidpan training)

Hi folks, not been around for a while with not having my beloved Mk1 any more, but anyway... My wife says that she doesn't want to go for a romantic meal for our 2nd wedding anniversary, she'd rather we both went on a skidpan training day. She rocks. Anyone know where we could do that sort of thing ...

Re: Rusty mk1 rear arches - replacement panels?

Do you know which year Cherry I need the arches off?

Allan - I thought I'd post here rather than PM'ing the guru, so that other mk1 owners can see it. :)

Rusty mk1 rear arches - replacement panels?

Hi folks, My bro has bought my old mk1, and he's wanting to fix the rusty rear arches. Now I know you can get replacements from JDG panels, but they're a bit pricey. I vaguely remember Paul Woods mentioning that Datsun Cherry arches would fit, if you put them on the wrong sides? This was at Billing ...

Well, I'll still lurk around here, but I won't be getting another MR2 for a while - I've bought myself a VW Polo 1.4TDi. Sensible Pipe & Slippers turbo tractor power for a while...

Bye bye MR2

Waved goodbye to my rusty little Mk1 this morning. I needed something more practical, as the mileage I'm doing commuting would have killed the poor little mk1. It's gone to a good home though, brother has bought it and he's a far better amateur mechanic than I am. But, I had no idea I'd feel so sad ...

Re: Calling Mr Woods - Mk1 Head Gasket

Mine overheated once and dumped its coolant outside a brothel in Birmingham (we were driving past, honest). Refilled the coolant, and it's been fine ever since, and this is about a year later, doing 50 miles a day. My best guess is that the mechanics who serviced it didn't bleed it properly, but I t...

Well, there's only so much of a car you can see when passing each other at a combined speed of about 120mph :)

And it's a mk1 mr2, so it looks cool by definition :D

Re: Mk1a Restoration news../Steve K

Roughly how much should it cost to have the rear arches done Lauren? I need mine sorted soon, so it'd be good to have an idea before going to a bodyshop.

Anyone recommend a bodyshop near Coventry?

The rear arches on my Mk1 have succumbed to the old tinworm, so I guess I should get them hacked off and some new metal welded on.

So, does anyone know of a bodyshop near Coventry/Brum area that won't rip me off?

Cheers!

Re: How much leg room in MK1

I'm 6'2" and 15 stone, and I only just fit in my mk1. Headroom isn't too bad, but clearance between the wheel and my left leg is. I'll stick a smaller wheel on there at some point, that should sort it out. I really think you'll struggle at 6'5" - give it a try though, you might fit :) [/qu...

Re: Bloody understeer and strange handling.

Had a similar problem on my mk1. The handling had been degenerating gradually, tons of understeer, very odd steering behaviour under braking, and some odd creaks and groans. I'd put it down to the balljoints, which I was about to replace - so I replaced them, then took it in to get the alignment don...

Re: Air filtration upgrade

Yeah, I must admit I haven't driven on a hot day with the filter bolted straight onto the throttle body... I'll see what happens next summer.

Are there any air intake temp gauges you can make/buy? It'd be interesting to compare filter location with temps.

Re: Air filtration upgrade

I put one on my late spec mk1 - very easy job. Oh my, what a noise it makes :D

I think the resonator box is to quieten things down.

Yaay! A proper forum!

Nice one guys.

I'm willing to pay a membership fee to cover costs, no probs. 10-15 quid would be perfectly reasonable.
