[Mk2] [NA] Waste of time dealer.

Post by stevenb »

I went to view a car in Swindon today.
£1395 on the Autotrader.
Am I allowed to name the dealer on here?

I travelled 77 miles from Dunstable.
Car was advertised as a UK car 100,000 miles with 12 months MOT andsome tax.
Looked ok.
When I got there I found it had a error 21 code and an error 25 code.
It also had 164,000 miles.

Worst of all is the fact that it was clearly a UK car and the young whippersnapper tried to tell me it was an import. :-k

Needless to say I left after just 2 mins of looking at it.
Why do dealers do this? I can appreciate they may handle many cars in and out of their business but to blatantly lie is silly.

I thought I'd post this up just incase others on here are interested in it.
Can I name the dealer?

Cheers all

I'd report them to the regulatary body as well. Mis-representing a car is not allowed nor is lying outright about it

I was thinking about reporting them to Autotrader TBH mate.
Never done it before.

I'll name them anyway.
If a Mod disapproves then they can edit my post and accept my apologies in advance  ...Im not a trouble maker..and feel that this warning is beneficial.

Mate that is hugely annoying - what a hand jockey. You wasted 150 miles worth of fuel and I'm guessing three hours of your time for that?! I would report him.

A similar thing happened to me when I was shopping for a first car for my GF and I wish I had reported the barsteward. Saw a Saxo advertised in Autotrader with low miles and described as being in good condition. I called the dealer and asked the usual questions including 'what condition is the bodywork in - are there any dents or scrapes?'. He replied that the car had a 'few marks' but that it was generally in good condition.

We drove to Liverpool from Manchester and when we finally arrived I discovered the car had a scrape all down one side of the door and rear panel, a wing mirror ripped off and the bonnet looked as if someone had given it a going over with a sledge hammer!

I was fuming and the dealer's non-chalant attitude and repetition of 'ay ay - its a cheap car' didn't help. I felt like giving him a smack in the mouth but controlled my temper and left. VERY annoying. I wish I'd reported him.

4.5 hours

But I was in my Clio 1.2 and did all that on just over £10 of fuel.
The vehcile may have been genuine but still not to my taste which would have meant returning empty handed...so thats the way I looked at it.

I must admit....some peoples descriptions vary wildly when they describe the same thing.
I guess traders just want to pull the punters in and hope they make a sale.
Anyhoo.....I never bought it.....so I still have my bank balance in tact for now..

Thanks for the PM. :thumleft:

I have contacted Autotrader and let them know about the above.
I doubt anything will happen but I'll keep my eye on it.

No problem with naming any trader as long as you are reporting your own true experience...which you are! Forgetting 64K miles in an ad is rather a lot...

Got an email reply.
They have forwarded my enquiry onto the investigation team and will contact the dealer.

That'll teach them!

Lets hope this is an isolated incident.
