No, Mario 64 is no.5 and it was xxxx!

I think we were talking about Super Mario Bros as in the NES classic that is one of the highest selling games of all time (namely because Nintendo sold it with the console)

COD4 at number 1? Someone's having a laugh.

Where's Flashback, Guantlet, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Street Fighter etc etc.

maybe its just the "old skool" in us that alows us to realise there arnt many games today that live up to the standard of yesterday.

I remember when halflife was release and the way it stormed the gaming scene. and further back when streetfighter was released, grand theft auto. awsome awsome games. its hard to create something that compelling without copying somthing from the older games.

and now platform games tend to be child-like and quirky, unlike sonic and mario which were neutral games for anybody.

and tetris! good god why is that not in there!

I think you just remember them more fondly than they actually warrent.

Through Xbox live and PSN I have killed memories of a number of classic games

Nah, I can pick up Flashback and Altered Beast today and have a fantastic time playing. They've not lost anything over the years IMO.

I used to think Mortal Kombat & Street Fighter II Turbo were great but they're terrible now lol.

I'm still waiting for Goldeneye to come to Xbox live though so I can relive that one.

It's f'ing terrible lol!!

I have very fond memories of it, but thats all they are now. The reality is not the same.

Same for Streets Of Rage as well. I used to have loads of mates round and we'd rinse that on the NES for hours. But now it's just laughable.

For me, they were brilliant, in their day.
But it's not their day any more.

I used to love Double Dragon and Kung Fu as well :thumleft:

Just Kung Fu on the NES, was very basic but loved it at the time.

Super Mario was my all time fave though.
