[Mk2] [Turbo] *really* bad mpg

Post by GhostWKD »

just as a experiment to see how bad my mpg is, i topped up the car with fuel the other day with the intention to fill back up today to see how much had used for how many miles/km

clocks are still in km/h so was 57.8km since last fillup (to the brim also)

so 57.8 / 1.609344 = 35.9 miles

it took £20.50 to fill back up at 122.9 per litre = 16.68 litres so it already looks pretty dire...

16.68 x 4.54609 = 3.67 gallons

35.9 miles / 3.67 gallons... so mpg of 9.8 mpg :S

sorry if above seems stupid just working out the mpg making sure no errors

but thats taking it easy alot of the time, seems ridiculous to me... car does have a intermittant hesitation/missfire though

Have replaced dizzy cap, rotor arm, irridium plugs, ecu

have a whole second mr2 tubby to swap parts with, just dont know what else to try, think i might do the leads next, and the ssqv instead of the blitz d/v :)

no error codes either :(

Any opinions would be greatfully appreciated

+1 :thumleft: Sounds like the car is hugely overfuelling all the time

Id try removing it and soaking it in lemon juice overnight that should show you a massive improvement for about a month just so you know if it is fubard as they are not a cheap item.

That's never right even if you're ragging it. I get about 25ish on average with mixed driving.

I had similar to this. Found out my Air Filter to turbo pipe was loose and my bottom intercooler pipe was loose. Tightened them and then noticed the Lambda wire had snapped off so re connected that and my fuel consumption went from £20 to get 40 miles to £20 to get about 90 miles!!

well i think the IC is holed slightly :( but got a XS Power to go on when i get 2 mins

got a spare mr2 tubby so if lambda needs replacing isnt a huge deal :) (give me a excuse to get the decat fitted if anything heh) thought the lambda would throw up a error code though :(

mine didnt give any error code when the wire was snapped.

Not 100% sure but I think its something to do with the single wire the Rev1/2 uses, Rev3+ use a 3 or 4 wire one and I think they log an error code in the ecu.
